UMI X2 | 5" 1080p | 1.2 GHz quad | 2 GB RAM | 4.2 Jelly Bean | Rs. 14,000

I was. But not anymore. HUGE fault in it. BLACK BAR at the bottom. Permanent. I can't live with that.

I trust Micromax over these brands. Especially with Micromax planning a (rumored) Canvas HD Pro A120 (1080p display)

Yep, I know. But it's true Micromax is working on higher end Canvas devices (they said that even before launching Canvas HD). Really hope they take in the latest and greatest and spit out another Canvas phone.

So is the UMI X2 a confirmed dud now or is there still some hope left? Has anyone received it? Most people have their pre-sale deposit stuck now for over a month.

X2 wont be in the market till 2nd week May. Read it on gizchina.

Pathetic company. Disappointment starts even before having product in hand. These cos dont learn from mistakes. Never promise something which u cant deliver. Same is with Jiayu too. If they cant be sure of launch date why mention it in the first place.

Also i cant understand how 2GB ram issue cropped up when mobile was expected to be launched. And not in design phase?

Seriously guys?!?
I mean even after what that old sook of a nation keeps doing what it does best.. Double speak and back stabbing.. and people are still game for purchasing a generic chinese product??

By that calculation one should not buy the branded stuff as well like samsung phone etc since they are ultimately made by chinese people. It does not work that way.
Yes the reason that quality is crap is a very much valid reason to not buy generic chinese phones.
But even native chinese brands are making ways into India now. Ainol, Midea etc.
I had bought an Ainol media player (from China) in 2009 when i believe no one in India even knew such a brand existed.

^^ I clearly mentioned generic stuff.

I dont know why people bring up this arguement when the point being raised is very clearly translating to the chinese domestic products.
A consumer of present day cannot avoid goods manufactured in china as every major brand has employed those ant farms.. BUT we certainly can press home the point that their dumping policy and even otherwise their local industry's products are not accepted here.

Take for example the latest tussle between the chinese and the Japs. For a cursory piece of islands, the chinese came out in full force to boycott the Big Japanese manufacturing house's products. And compare the situation to which we are witnessing.. they keep doing a great disservice to the region and yet we keep purchasing them stupid products just cuz they are cheap and Indians cant stop purchasing things like those cuz we are so bloody money minded that we are literally blind towards the bigger picture.

^ dont put the blame on us consumers. its not in our hands. its the greedy business people aka corporate houses that import or give manufacturing contracts to the chinese to save money and increase their profits and pension funds. what the chinese govt does, any government like usa also does. chinese people are ambitious and follow their govt. they are brainwashed people. china wants to rule over the whole world like britain did a century back. if we are to actually boycott chinese products, let the indian manufacturer's start producing goods here first. and for that to happen, our greedy govt will have to reduce taxes and duties and double taxation scenarios like lbt etc. india is too bad a place to produce any goods. its uncompetitive in all scenarios. electricity if available is costly, water is scarce, land is scarce since the farmers own most of it. then trade unions, bad roads, improper untrained work force, bad managers, high bank interest rates, no detail to quality etc.

This one is for you @Spacescreamer

I think you were part of the outraging group that caused this, so thank you.

Now back to the topic, somebody said wickedleaks; anyone here with personal experience with them. As for other Chinese brands, I own an Ainol Novo 7 Elf(1st edition) Since Jan 2012(long before Ainol India was set up) and I love it.

So Wickedleaks, more info, opinions, sources please.

Gee.. If this is true, then.. :D
I am happy and honored :) (i know its unrealtimes. )

But,
I will still ask people to refrain from purchasing the faaltu chinese products. They are cheap but to keep purchasing them even when we know that their country is no good in terms of confidence building measures and looks down upon us.. its the people who are proving themselves to be cheap with sustained preference for chinese made products.

I feel sorry for the situation that we have lost the sentiment to boycott products like we did during struggle for independence.
Not only we are lacking leaders in politicians.. We dont have people with scruples these days.

I hear you about the lack of scruples my friend. But during the freedom struggle they actually had alternatives to the stuff they boycotted, we don't. Now you might point out you are only "outraging" against the generic products, and I fail to understand why? So you are not against buying products containing Chinese made components, but want to boycott products wholely made in china and packaged as such?

You have the answer within your post. And to point out what i mentioned earlier as well, that a consumer/buyer cannot avoid chinese made stuff today, but can very well stay away from the china's local products.

And when u mention people had other options, you do have other options now as well and in few cases more than enough options exist. I have been purchasing all the made in Thailand/Malaysia products whenever and wherever i had the option since past few years.
It really is upto you how much you are willing to look up and spend few extra bucks to keep the china made stuff purchase in check.
