looks sexy, specs are cool... if it only had a disc drive (slot load, may be) and slightly better processor(i am sure it will add one soon)... design is very futuristic.

That inquirer article is a POS, and the author probably has been unable to get a dump for the last 1 week

C'mon guys, use your own heads instead of just blindly going by what some idiot reporter thinks is the truth

If priced well, this thing is almost a Mac Mini at half the price, and I can't really think of one bad thing to say about it

The author is Charlie Demerjian.

Everyone knows about his opinion about nvidia and their products.

Coming to the points he brought up in the article:

The Ion has always been touted as a Atom netbook killer. Enough reason for him to take a dig at nvidia for failing to come out with a netbook model.

The second issue, where you say it could take on a mac mini. Please dont try to compare an atom based rig to a mac mini. They are oceans apart. I have a atom based rig as my dl rig and i know how it struggles if i were just to open up 10 pages in firefox. The Mac Mini, while double the cost, has a C2D proccy as you well know, which just thrashes the Atom to bits. Logically, given the failings of the Atom, to have something that could even remotely compete with the Mac Mini, a cheap Celeron makes perfect sense.

I am not going to comment on his claims on the 9400 since i have no experience/insight into the same. However, his other arguments are perfectly correct.

Its definitely is a fine product but comparing it to a Mac Mini is pointless IMHO.

There is obviously a stark difference in specs and aesthetics and everything else aside this won't run OS X like the Mini.

They are oceans apart indeed, but the reason why I made the comparison is simple.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), Computers have become a commodity for many of us today, and except a few, no one wants a single computer to be their one size fits all solution for their computing needs

A few folks want their Mac Mini to act as their primary (or otherwise) desktop that can handle all their computing needs while still looking pretty, and that is perfectly fine

A vast majority of MM buyers however intend to use it as a simple multimedia player, a pretty looking media player for their HTPC at most (incl. I, my MM serves as the source for my living room audio rig)

Something that is capable of handling reasonably taxing media playback, while not being an eyesore in the living room

Now tell me how this isn't capable of being that?

<Runs away for lack of an answer, but still maintains that Charlie is a real good investigative journo. So what if he hates one particular company :P>

Update Update..

This looks interesting :D

^Any reviews yet?

you can checkout Bit Tech... they reviewed Ion a few weeks back. Given it a thumbs up. Seriously, this is one product, which if priced right, has potential to hit big with buyers.
