Guide Uninstall IE7 Beta From Your Computer

Here is the smallest guide you will ever get

Incase you had installed IE7beta 1 (the exclusive review of which we did here) and now are sick of it (in which case i might add you are not a minority) or if you want to make use of windows update(Windows Update can't seem to properly render on IE7beta1) then here is a small easy way for you to uninstall IE7 and get back to good old IE6 (hmm ok remove that good part :bleh: )

Needless to say that if you go to add remove program you won't see anything. You go to add/remove windows components again there is option to completely uninstall IE but not just IE7.

Ok so here is how you do it -

start->control panel->add remove programs->at the top check "show updates" radio box->scroll down in the list->you will see IE7 listed, uninstall that, restart and you are on IE6

Now go back to opera/ff :ohyeah:​

Manual Uninstall :

Remember for Beta 1 you need to click on show updates to see the IE 7 uninstall entry in add/remove programs.

For Beta 2 & later you can see the IE 7 uninstall entry as a standalone entry, no show updates required here.

If you dont see the uninstall entires even after following the above steps then do the following -

  • Go to Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View - Enable the Show Hidden Files and Folders.
  • Go to Start Menu/Run paste the following code & press enter(check the exact path in your windows folder)
    • %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

      OR

      [*]%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

      OR

      [*]%windir%\ie7beta3\spuninst\spuninst.exe
  • One other way to do is to manually navigate to the path shown above and click on spuninst.exe.

that doesnt work, ive contacted microsoft and there profesional didnt even know how to fix it so they have to send me to a higher ranked profesional to fix the problem.

I had to reinstall Windows due to NTLDR missing. Fixboot did not resolve it this time. IE7b2 is not in add/remove (showing updates) and all %winroot%\$ntuninst, etc. were deleted by the reinstall. Needless to say there is no rolling back to a restore point.

Any help removing IE7b2 if only to a point where I can install IE7b3 and then remove it properly and go back to IE6.

Since this is a BETA version remnants of the stupid bag of extremely poor code remain, the only way to rid the pc's of this mess is thru "System Restore". I am getting to the point where I want to write my own code for an operating system and build my own PC!!!!!

and it worked for me

but then, my IE6 starts acting up, whenever i try going to other websites via address bar, it opens another IE window and opens that website from there.
does anybody know how to fix this? thanks!
 
I have found the files as recommeded and it goes through the uninstall process but gets stuck on the last item - "Running Processess Before Uninstall". This has been going for several hours. I have to use the Windows task manager to close this down. any suggestions?
 
When i choose to uninstall IE7 Beta 3 or IE7 (both of which are still installed), my computer shuts down and nothing is accomplished!

Even when running 'spuninst.exe' this causes my computer to shut down. I've uninstalled IE6 using the registry setting the "IsInstalled" value from 1 to 0.

I've also tried reinstalling IE6 using the full 'ie6setup.exe' but the program will not run, nor will the actual wizard inside the self-extracting file.

I wanted to uninstall IE7 because it will not show any pages, and I have tried disabling the 'add-ons' in Internet Options but this still will not work. I think it has messed around with some port / proxy settings (according to Windows Live Messenger / MSN) for WLM/MSN will not work and troubleshooting it comes up with there being problems with key ports / proxy settings / firewall...

I also tried renaming 'spuninst.txt' to 'spuninst.bat' .. though i'm not sure that did anything :\

My internet in general still works - using FireFox anyway... but I can't system restore so I'm kinda stuck?!!!

Please help!

It its beta 1 & you dont see it using show updates, then one alternative is to reinstall it & then uninstall it.

OR if you dont have both the uninstall entires - one more thing to do is :

Neither one works for me. When I use the Start/Run option I get this: "Refers to a location that is not available". When I go to the folder option and find spuninst when I click on it I get the following "IE7beta cannot be uninstalled from this user acct. Log on to the same user acct which it was installed and try again". Well I only have one user account and that is myself. I don't have an administator and no one else is on the PC but me.

3. Right-click the Internet Explorer key, click New, and then click DWORD value.
4. Type "InstalledByUser" as the name, and then press ENTER to finish creating the new registry value.
5. Try to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 again.

This should do the trick my friend ;)

After 72 hours of total frustration, 3 conversations with MS (IE7 specialist, advanced support,) both here and abroad, this is what saved the day. MS should be ashamed. There should be clear instructions on their upload page on how to remove the program. The problem I had was, I was foolish because MS was telling me I had to have a “Windows Genuine Advantage†on my system (which I had) but the notices kept on coming. So I put my GENUINE XP disk in my system to update it and the system crashed. Outlook, Explorer, IE everything was non functioning. After many hours and unclear pop up’s from windows I narrowed down from searches that leftover files from IE7 was the culprit. MS last advice was for me to wipe my drive and reinstall 2 years worth of programs and customizations. Once all of the misc. files from IE7 were gone my system was fine. THANK YOU for posting this fix.
 
I had IE7beta2 and I _DID_ have to have to click "show Updates".

It was terrible when I installed - and stopped working completly after I installed Norton Internet Security 2007.

Thanks for the page, and the tip - just happy I didn't have to summon a wizard.
 
thank you for that bit of help there, worked like a charm. Now I will just stay put with IE 6 (arrgggg is there anything out there that is better than IE? I tried firefox, and netscape....yuck! ) You say Opera is good, I tried that too but maybe I did not give it a chance to much. think it is worth giving it another shot?

I had a similar issue. IE7 preview had been installed by a past employee and his account had been deleted, so, as I was logged in, it gave me the same error message. After some searching I found the following:

Internet Explorer 7 Fails to Uninstall from Specified User Account

If you see an error message saying that you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 from this user account, you can bypass the check by following these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
3. Right-click the Internet Explorer key, click New, and then click DWORD value.
4. Type InstalledByUser as the name, and then press ENTER to finish creating the new registry value.
5. Try to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 again.

This worked like a charm for me. I hope it helps others.

the new IE 7 was horrible..in addition to having a lot of website that wouldnt open!

I'll go back to my avant.com browser though!

have you see that yet? it's awesome...like it a lot better than opera!

But a HECK of a lot better than the joke of IE 7 was!

Problem I dont have anything remotly close to saying " Internet Explorer to uninstall :( in my control panal even if I click the radio button. email me would be better than posting. mattman001@hotmail.com subject IE uninstallation
 
I did what everyone said in every post but if I click tools I dont get a "Folder options" option? I have delete brose hist., manage addons, work off line, windows update, full screen, menu bar, tool bars, internet options. I did the regedit thing hasnt done anything for me yet but sense I cant find folder options it wouldnt. and I did the run/ long line of stuff. nothing. and I did the update radio and nothing pops up IE7 or IE anything.
 
I found a Folder options in control panal classic view. but still dont see IE7 uninstll in add/remove and no luck with the %windir% stuff
 
We have Yahoo IE7 on our PC. We have removed IE7 3 times and each time we have downloaded IE7 from the Microsoft website, it re-installs optimised for Yahoo. However, I have noticed it is not installed on the other 2 windows profiles we have on our computer. Is there anything else anybody can sugggest?
