My bro's getting under contract basis(45gbp installments for 3months) and he'll pay for 1month only then, get it unlocked in India. Can they track back/lock the phone?
 
i havent heard a case in which they did so guess not.

is he going back after that?(if he has insurance he can get another one, if he is going. someone i know did the same thing for a friend of mine)
 
One of my frnds gave me 3GS to unlock i dnt have the Box or anything i only have the phone its on the USB - ITunes Screen so how can i check if its 3.0 or 3.1.

AFAIK there was some code na *3001 something does it still wrk? ... Please help
 
You can for sure get your iPhone working here in India as well in UK. Also it's ok to buy 3GS as I am sure dev team will release the unlock sft soon. But make sure your bro cancels his CC in UK. Otherwise the card will be charges irrespective of whether you unlocked your phone or not. At least this is what happened to a friend of mine who tried this in US.

Also, they block your CC and you cannot buy another iPhone from the same CC in future then. So if he doesn't have any problem with that, it's fine then. Just buy a iPhone there, close the account / cancel the CC and enjoy the iphone here. You can get them for as cheap as One month installment :P

That code used to work on phones using version 1.x and lower. I think itunes itself shows the version after connecting your phone to PC. Try that. it's somewhere at the top middle of the screen.
 
Yeah, well I'm telling him to close his bank account(from which monthly installments are being debited) 2 days before leaving for India. As for my 3GS another friend of his is buying it on his name and bringing it here.

If he cancels his contract he'll have to pay for cancellation(~99GBP).

He wont ever go back to O2 again that's for sure.

Great news iPhone 3gs will support FENNEC(mozilla mobile). Another reason to get it really fast.

go to setting > about > and then then post the firmware no.

Ask Ragin_Ice the rest. Sorry for the double post I had multiple pages ON.
