THIS ONE IS FOR ALL U 3D GURUS..AND GAME GURUS ...U GOOTAA HELP ME OUTTA THIS !

i had...a geforce mx4000..b4 i got a gainward 6600gt golden sample edition..

the card runs on a 4X AGP interface..

my other config as follows :

512 MB DDR RAM (400 MHZ) running at 266mhz....

P4 2.4GHZ A wid 1MB L2 cache...

80 GB PATA HDD..

17 " CRT monitor ..

ForceWare 91.47 LATEST DRIVERS...

gainward 6600gt 4x agp clocked at -

i use to play..Need for speed MOST Wanted ..on my MX4000 ..and was quiet satisified when playing on very low settings..

after i got the 6600 gt i installed the new drivers..and then changed the settings of most wanted to medium..and tried to play..

but i am very depressed cauz the game is running worst then the MX4000...

there is lot and lot of lag..means the game freezes..in between..for 1-2 sec..(very small time)...even if i try to turn off all AA AF..and other effects..then sometimes there is lag..and the gfx look ...very crapppy !!

so please suggest..me what do i do..to get decend..gfx.. and smooth gameplay..is the forceware 91.47 driver..doing the problem..as earlier i had. older drivers....?

also suggest me all the details..settings i should keep to play the game better..like AA ,AF ,v sync ..,then tain ,over bright, other details.like road reflection update ,geom. detail..etc.(every single detail)..resolution.etc for a smoother game play..

or is there a prob..cauz my RAM is at the bottleneck..and adding another 512 MB ram ..will make things better ?

please..analyze.the prob..and help me out.......

THNX IN AVANCE...

i guess ur cpu and ram are the bottleneck here ur cards fine upgrade to an amd 64 3200+ or higher and get altleast 1gb ram cause nfs most wanted worked perfectly on my 6600gt on all high...

soorry..yaar..plzz dnt suggest for upgrades...other then max a 512 mb more RAM..cauz i just recently..spend money on the card..and dad wont allow more upgrade now...and as i saw at System Requirements Lab

anf found the result tht my config does not only pass minimum requirements but also recommended..

.so i think..it wud be gr88..if ucan suggest what settings..i shud keep for smoother gameplay...

try to understand my condition...i can go for any more upgrades...

faheem remove 91.47 and then reinstall the older 8x.xx drivers . Also additional 512Mb will definitely help reducing/eliminating stutters. 512Mb ram is not enough for NFS:MW.to check if that is the case boot xp with no background apps running (enable windows classic to save memory too) and then run the game if it runs better then its definitely due to lack of ram.

u can also try tweak guides for nfsmw here

If you had no problems with the old drivers then reinstall them. Most wanted skips on some pc's, as it was first made for the console's and then ported to the pc platform. Play at 1024x768 turn of aa and af, texture filtering could be set to high, turn shadows and reflection update rate to low, disable v sync, reduce world details....try these settings and see if it helps.

OK..GUYS...i will try..all tht u said...and den give a reply..later...

thnx for u suggestions...

ok... what i di was..in the MSCONFIG i selected only a few services and start up entries..and services that were essential...and excluded the anti-virus ,firewall..etc.

so when i started the PC. only arnd 180 mb was being used up..and i even rolled back to old forceware 84.21 drivers...and saw some improvement in the game..and there was not much lag..while playing games !!

BUT THIS can not be done all the time cauz... i need anti visrus ,firewall and other services when NET is conctd..and i am not playing games...

SO i tht of making two users on the PC..one for only games...and other for work !

but my doubt is will the MSCONFIG services and start up entries will be the same for both or can i keep tow different start -up entries for two different users !!

what i want is when i log in using the Gamez ACCNT. only essential services should be running ..and whn i log in thru other accnt all other services...shud also be running !

is this possible ? then how plzz help me out !!

thanx in advance !

I have been pointing it out every now & then....Let me have a go at it again :(

there is lot and lot of lag..means the game freezes..in between..for 1-2 sec..(very small time)

Stutter/Freeze(call it what you will) is more often than not , not an indication of a poor GFX card or a CPU bottleneck, and there is no reason why a person should be asked to upgrade because of this.

Stutter/Freeze usually occurs when the data bus (Which here refers to the HDD -> RAM-> CPU/GFX pipeline) is unable to feed data to the system at a speed lower than the rate at which the system is processing the data

Turning off details/resolution is not the most appropriate way to fix this as you are essentially just lowering down the data input requirements to a level which your data bus can handle....

Thus stutter /freeze is usually an indicator of :

a) HDD functioning less than optimal (e.g. at UDMA2 instead of UDMA5)

b) Inadequate or erroneous RAM

c) Any other system setting which is disrupting the flow of data

For you case Faheem,in all likelihood, this is being caused by either low RAM, or the NFS MW cache size entry in the registry set too low..Can youplease do this and post back:

1) Open regedit

2) Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\Need for Speed Most Wanted\

3) Find an entry that says cachesize...Post back the value that is stated there

Thats wat i feel, I believe GPU isn't the bottle neck here, with 6600Gt 256mb AGP I am getting 30 to 40fps with max settings.(1024x768 8x AF, 4x AA)
Try installing latest chipset drivers for ur mobo, this may solve the problem!!

ya actly..after i saw a NFS most wanted tweak on one of the site i had changed the cach size in the registry to the following :
cach size : 3044530176
and the swap size is : 4194304000
so tell me if any of the entry is..low and modifying ...them ..may help improve the game ..and avoid stutter..
thanx..for u r reply...

also tell me ..abt the MSCONFIG and the different USERS problem i have posted above(post # 7)..is it possible ?

Try pushing up the cache size to ~400MB and swap size to double that, i.e. 800 MB

Also, to be sure, just check the IDE controller under device manager to make sure that the HDD is running under UDMA5...

Or better still, run a HD tune test and post back the max/min/avg data trfr rates and burst access rate

what value should i put in cache size and swap size to make then 400mb and 800mb respectively ???

also i checked the IDE settings..and what i saw is as follows , tell me is this what is expected orr should be or is it lower... than what it should be -

PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL PROPERTIES -

device type : IDE ATA /ATAPI

device (0) current transfer mode : ULTRA DMA 4

device (1) current transfer mode : NA

SECONDRY IDE CHANNEL PROPERTIES -

device type : same as above

device (0) current transfer mode : ULTRA DMA 2

device (1) ..............................: NA (not applicable)

NOW THE HD TUNE TEST RESULTS AND THE GENRAL INFO :

FIRMWARE VERSION : 8.01

CAPACITY : 74.5 (~80 GB)

BUFFER : 2048 KB

STANDARD : ATA /ATAPI -6

SUPPORTED : UDMA MODE 5 (ULTRA ATA /100)

ACTIVE : UDMA MODE 2 (ULTRA ATA /33 )

so looks like my HDD too is running at a slow speed...

these are the HDD benchmarks -

HD Tune: ST380011A Benchmark

Transfer Rate Minimum : 8.8 MB/sec

Transfer Rate Maximum : 27.8 MB/sec

Transfer Rate Average : 24.7 MB/sec

Access Time : 16.3 ms

Burst Rate : 29.0 MB/sec

CPU Usage : 8.7%

guys plzz bare with me and my old crappy PC....i just want to get the best i can get from this poor PC of mine...thts it..cauz after my 12th i will get a new PC...i hope u all will help..me out till my prob is solved....

anywayz is there any way i can change the TRANSFER MODE TO THAT MAXIMUM SUPPORTED BY MY HDD ie : UDMA MODE 5 ???

^^For the UDMA settings...i think u are using the a 40 conductor cable....get a new 80conductor cable abd u shld be running in UDMA5..
Also just to be sure...check the bios dma settings and keep them on auto...

hmm most of it went above my head......
whats a 80 conductor cable ??is it the IDE cable ???
also does the mobo...needs to support the UDMA5 settings ??
where in BIOS is DMA aettings i couldnt find it ...!!
:S

See this page for NFS MW registry tweaks.
TweakGuides.com - Need for Speed: Most Wanted Tweak Guide

Something that makes the biggest reduction in stuttering is not allowing the game to load the music.
To do this, go to \Need for Speed Most Wanted\SOUND\PFDATA\ and rename MW_Music.mus and MW_Music.mpf to MW_Music.mus.bak and MW_Music.mpf.bak respectively.

Also 512mb is insufficient for NFS MW, this game has an inherent stuttering problem that exists (at some level) even on systems with 1gb of memory.
Thanks to the crap coding, you'll just have to get another 512mb stick.

I had the same config as you and adding another 512mb stick almost completely removed all the stuttering in NFS MW. Now it's locked at 43 fps all the way at 1024x768, 2xaa, V-sync enabled.

EDIT : ok just swa a 80conductor cable on google images...but does my mobo support the 80 conductor cable and UDMA5 ??

Dude , I hope you removed the earlier drivers by running Driver Cleaner in safe mode ? Install 91.28 . another thing , dont ever use msconfig for shutting down services , use services.msc for that :) . Msconfig can be used for closing start-up progs but it is not recommended to close services . 512MB is too low obviously ..
start the game with 640x480 with lowest settings and go from there

80 conductor cable is an IDE cable...its the one with finer lines...
And in the Bios...under general/cmos...where your hdd's are listed...just select the hdd's u r using and u shld see the DMA Transfer mode settings... :D

WONT TURNING OFF THE EA TRAX AND MUSIC IN THE GAME.BE THE SAME. AS CHANGING FILE NAMES ?

EDIT :ALSO CHECKED MY CMOS SETTINGS IN THE ST380011A hdd Settings i didnt see any DMA but there was some mode access settings which had the following options -

CHS

LGA

LARGE

AND AUTO

currently set to AUTO....

cmon..guys give a reply...i have even posted the HD test benchmarks and all other info.. u needed...
