CPU/Mobo upgradin from e2160 to e7200!!!

was planning to upgrade from my current proccy e2160 to e7200 ,is it a wise decision also will it matter in gaming.
 
also will the e7200 at 3ghz show higher performance in gaming compared to the e2160 at 3ghz and will it be noticable in gaming.
 
Yes, Gears of War was sluggish on my E2140 3.4GHz, but butter smooth when I got E6600 @ 3.5GHz, Test Drive Unlimited also showed same improvement, less impact on other games.
 
thanks for the reply sindhu punjab.....there is just one last query if i had the option of upgrading to either a new proccy with larger l2 cache or a mother board with dual channel memory and good overclocking performance like p35 which one should i go fo???again with respect to gaming.
 
I just upgraded from a E2140 to a E7200. And yes, its surely a wise decision .. i can see increases in bechies right from 3DMark06 to Crysis CPU & GPU benchs.

i would take a 3GHz 7200 over a 3.6Ghz 2160 anyday:P ,and i would get more memory than dual channel for gaming.if you are using vista 4Gb should help in some games(crysis) in xp 2Gb should suffice
 
so u r saying a 3ghz e7200 will have noticable performance gains in gaming compared to a highly overclocked e2160,and that means i dont have to upgrade my motherboard which is based on nvidia 610i chipset....thanks for ur input.
 
Iam getting quite good improvement when i moved from a E2160 (OC'd @ 3.2GHz) to a E7200 (OC'd at 3.16Ghz)..

Most noticiable was in in COD4, the E2160 used to give arnd 40-50 FPS (@ 1680x1050 with all settings & 0AA & 0AF).. The E7200 gave more than 70FPS (with full AF & 4x AA) on average..

it wont have quite higher avg fps but should be much better with min fps due to the increased cache on the 7200.my 2140 stutters a lot in crysis whenever there is a lot of AI and explosions on screen and i have noticed slowdowns in some other games as well,which are most probably due to a 'cache miss'.
 
Best o luck try to check CS with which batch is good these days and try to get that specific batch.
