PC Peripherals Upgrading my PC

Ok wow, I didnt know that shopping for a PC would be such a pain in the a$$. I mean just look at the amount of diff cards one manufacturer makes. I am totally back to square 1 on the GFX front  Am not really sure which one to go for. Some ppl say 9600GT is good (there are some threads abt it too), some ppl totally back the 8800GT. Some ppl adviced me to go for the OC'ed version. Oh man I'm done. Now all I need is thorough advice. Coz I'm done reading :S Heck I didnt read this much for my grad exams :P Actually maybe it the money factor that's driving me so much  Anyways help would be much appreciated. Here are the specs so far decided.

Processor E8200
Mobo Abit IP35-E
RAM GSkill F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK 2GB (1GB x 2) 800Mhz
GFX MSI 8800GT OC Edition 512MB << Yet to decide on this one
Cabinet CM Elite 330
SMPS Corsair vx450W
Heatsink ThermalRight 120 Ultra

Yep new additions are the SMPS and the heatsink, boy am I going all out on this PC. And yeah also there might be a availability issue with the RAM's can some1 from Mumbai enlighten me on this if GSkill is available in Mumbai?

stick to the msi oc 8800 :) as for the cpu, why not get the soon-to-arrive E7200, there was a post here that it is great price/perf ration and can be overclocked about 50% easily... so you bump your CPU from 2.5 to about 3.8 ghz for free... (since you already getting the abit ip35e mobo)

more food for thought eh :P

Ok now am going nuts :@ Now the E7200  was set on the Processor front but now its messed up because of vishalrao. Machine lene do bhai :bleh: Is it worth the wait, also if the rates r sky-high then I would rather prefer the E8400 (if the E7200 causes the E8400 to fall then better :ohyeah: ) Please enlighten me on the above.

hehe, its always good to look at all options before spending such an amount of cash on a new machine :)

if you are going to experiment with overclocking then i would suggest the E7200, if you dont want all that adventure, then go for the E8400 (even this one can be OCed pretty well i guess) but thats just my opinion...

you are also looking at the single-platter 320gb hdd suggested above right?

what about a dvd writer?

Hmm.... yes I agree, but to decide from a plethora of options is not that pretty

Rest assured I'm not gonna OC anything, thats why the already OC'ed GFX:ohyeah:

Yeah, word on the street is that the HDD mentioned by gannu is :hap2: so might buy that

I already have one so dun need it.

Also I have added the Thermalright 120 Ultra as a heatsink to my config. Seems its gonna be awesome (atleast in my view).
Any experience you had with Thermalright in Pune :ashamed:

no not me - maybe apollyon has experience with the thermalright... i have the stock cpu heatsink and fan :) no OC for me either

OK, I had a trip to Sujata Comps and here are the rates I got

E8400 8700
Abit IP35-E 6000
Corsair XMS2 3500
Seagate 320GB 7200.11 3800
MSI 8800 GT OC 13800
Coolermaster Elite 330 2700
Corsair vx450W 4800

Now according to sources I have the rates of the PSU and GFX card is a lot more almost 2k out there. He quoted the GFX as 14.5k and came down to 13.8k I said boss I do need a kick ass pc. But I'm not gonna let you rip me off. Meanwhile I got the rates from another shop who is a dealer of my friend so he quoted the rates only of some of the components

E8400 8700
Abit IP35-E 5850
Corsair XMS2 3600

I didn't give him all the list. But I mailed him so lets see how it goes. I also called up the distributor for MSI in Pune to only find out that they do not deal with end customers but they can route my request to one of their dealers. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the MSI card. Now I have a small doubt, if the new proccy's hit the US on April 20th how much time will it take for the price to come down and also how much time will it take to reach India/Pune  asking Pune because the rates go down way later than it does in Mumbai.

msi was my first choice too but with no stock got the gigabyte 8800 from apollyon's dealer AMI for 11,200 - that is also factory OCed.

iirc, the 2x2gb corsair xms2 kit was for 6000 at AMI - not sure just for 2gb, vx450w is around 3900.

so get the vx450w and GB 8800 from there :) and 2gb xms2 ram too if available with him

Can anyone enlighten me on this front ??

Ok, today morning had a chat with Appolyn and he suggested me that I should go with the Gigabyte 8800 GT Turboforce (or simply OC'ed) gfx card. Am not so sure about this because Gigabyte (as per my poor memory) isn't a bright company. I need a view now, because I'm torn between the MSI and Gigabyte. Also please ppl some info on the price drop too if any1 is knowledgeable.

Posting again because I cant edit the previous post.

I say go for the gigabyte 8800 coz its the Type B with the copper Zalman cooler and a great price at 11.2k.

The Apr 20th price drop will mostly affect the older 65nm parts (as posted here in the forums) the current 45nm parts will hardly drop, but if you want you can anyways wait til the end of this month... see the other threads about "Intel price cut on Apr 20"...

But if you wait til the end of the month, and the CPU price doesnt drop much, and the GB 8800 is out of stock again, then you will lose rather than save cash :)

Do what I did: I didn't wait for the Apr 20th price drop, got my system last weekend. I might have saved 1-2k if I waited til the end of the month, but no patience to do that.

Ok I got the same suggestion from 2 guys that the Gigabyte 8800 GT Turboforce. Just wanted anyone else to confirm because both the guys who told me this had this very card  anyone suggesting me if I can go with this card :ashamed:

Memory Size 512MB
Memory Speed 1.9 GHz
Shader clock 1650

Gigabyte 8800GT Turboforce
Chipset 8800 GT
GPU Clock 700 MHz
Memory Bus 256-bit

Atleast now can I get a suggestion........ :(

Ok so finally I could finalize a config.

looks good. please post the prices/availability once you find out, i am interested since i was not able to get the ip35e and xfx was ripoff prices for me. i only just recently (6 days ago) got the rig in my sig :)

Thanks painkiller, I think I had read your post before. Now I'm gonna wander all over Pune in an attempt to find EVGA and MSI stuff. I mean most of the vendor's go "huh, what did you say???" when I ask for EVGA:@ :@ God please install brains in most of the computer sales rep's. This is such a $h!tty thing man. I mean if u dunno anything abt comps then why work at a PC store. Anyways I have 10 - 15 days before I buy my pc so will wander as much as possible and then see if I can get the stuff I wanted. Wish me luck guys ;)
