Hi guys,
I have a old thinkpad lying around. The configuration is as follows

Thinkpad R50e-1834
Pentium M 1.5 Ghz
256 MB RAM

Now Since 256 MB is hardly enough nowadays I wish to upgrade the RAM ,But the problem is I dont know the frequency of RAM/Ram type to be installed...

I gathered enough courage to pry the notebook open and saw the following written on the RAM module itself
"Samsung PC2700 256 MB DDR RAM"

Now CPU Z tells me I have a 166 Mhz PC2700 256 MB RAM installed.
When I search On ebay all I get is "PC2700 333 MHZ RAM"
example: EBAY RAM LINK

1)Can I use 333 MHZ DDR ram in my laptop, As I cant find the 166 Mhz anywhere.
2)Will It be supported by the mainboard of my notebook : Intel 855 chipset based.

Cpu z shows following:Report attached as text(zipped)

Regards, and thanks for reading the query,
aka.

Re: Upgrading RAM for my Thinkpad:Help Required !

go ahead and replace / upgrade it.

you can install that RAM provided you keep it DDR only and your new ram stick will run at old stick's speed.

simple.

also do bios update if it fails to recognise it.

i would say do a bios upgrade in first place.

Err, The problem in updating BIOS is that this particular notebook works only with AC power. Some fuse blown in the mainboard I suspect because of which the Battery cell is not taking charge. Thus BIOS upgrade cannot proceed as it reuires "100% charged battery"

But the only problem is I bought a local brand called Verico,as it was the only one available...
