well i have a NUMERIC 1KV 600W UPS for my PC, It became faulty and gave continuous BEEP for after working fine for 1-2 hours and switches off abruptly, creating havoc in my PC, as i got frustrated, i went to a UPS repairing electronic shop, they told me that MOBO in the UPS is faulty, its better to buy a new one instead of repairing this, it worked plumb for 7 years, and i was frustrated,

so I did not want to GIVE UP, hence i used my common sense, everytime it beeps with faulty red led, i sensed the UPS was struggling to dissipate the heat out, so i gave a try by accomodating 2 decent ordinary small fans (could be 80MM fans), on either side of the TRANSFORMER LOCATION!! for air flow as a last resort testing before i would throw away the UPS to Garbage collectors... And it worked wonders, i spent 300 Rs, by god's grace now the UPS is going good! don't forget to have a switch for the fan!!

My UPS has a tiny whiny fan. It was very torturous. I moved away the thermal sensor and the fan hasn't run since then. Also drilled some holes to fix its shitty german engineering.

LOL, that's how universe plays differently for different problems, my UPS required fans and you remanded a torturous fan, But this bit is questionable, you moved the thermal sensor or you have removed it out of circuit!
Also, Now i wonder, why many UPS brands doesn't come with fans for dissipation of heat?! Knowing thatsa good solution.
I have a Sandisk 32GB pendrive bought 9 years ago, its going strong, but i was able to realize its longevity and strength, by one MISHAP, i accidentally left it in my pants and left it in laundry, after rigorous soap water dilution and stress tests inside the washing machine, i released the pendrive out from dried out washed pants, swearing myself, to my amazement, the drive is still alive , i could not believe my electronic funda about water,electricity, and electric circuit short circuit. i was equally puzzled and glad :p

The thermal sensor became loose while the case was being opened. And I didn't bother to put it back in its place. Those brilliant German engineers forgot to put vents on this UPS.

The UPS which don't have fan usually have less backup and the body has enough buffer to soak the extra heat generated by its 15 minutes of backup.

Same thing happened with my Sennheiser wired headphones. They came out fine and fully cleaned. Sad to see Sennheiser company was bought off. Those germans were good. Creating durable and good product isn't profitable today.

Electronics + water with impurities + power = bad
Electornics + water with impurities = no problem short term, may cause problem longterm
Electornics + distilled water = no problem

Lmao I got the same UPS from a friend recently and he's also drilled holes in it for the same reason, although they're in the middle of the side of the case and not the edges. Fan still spins up and bothers me every once in a while but it's better than constant whining I suppose.

Drilling holes only reduced the frequency of fan spinning up. It didn't fully stop heating. So before my current mod of removing thermal sensor, I used to lodge a q-tip in the fan to stop it. I have posted that mod somewhere as well. :p

The UPS is a very badly engineered product. It doesn't have a single vent in top half of the portion. It becomes a hot air balloon.
