PC Peripherals UPS for Corsair TX650

Hey guys i am having a corsair TX650 has a PSU for my PC.Last week there was a power cut at my place, due to which my motherboard was damaged.I had to wait about a week to get it replaced from intel, as a result i now intend to purchase a UPS so that the power cuts does no further damage to my system .My PC config is Intel Q6600 processor, Intel DP35DP,2Gb corsair Ram 800Mhz, 320GB HDD,Zebronics 9600Gt.kindly recommend a good and compatible UPS for my system.

@OP: I have same CPU/mobo and nvidia 8800GT with APC BackUPS E-500... what happens when my CPU and/or GPU is at max load is that if power goes off/on then my whole system reboots.

So go for a good capacity UPS, at least 650 VA I would suggest...

Sorry to hijack thread, i have the same query

Can i use Corsair TX650 with APC Back UPS 550VA

Now, i dont need more than 5-10 mins of backup and my rig should not take more than 350w at full load, so will this UPS be enough

reason i look at APC because it has built-in voltage regulator, the other local ones dont have it i guess

want the cheapest possible option compatible with my psu

Guys, remember this:

Most UPSs are calibrated for 60-65% efficiency. So...if you buy a 650VA UPS expect it to support a maximum load of ~420W. Now if your system is pulling a load of 450W and you are using a 650VA UPS, and the lights go, there is a high chance the system will just shut down, or the UPS will whine like crazy, and bomb out. A good way is to calibrate your full system load at maximum pull then calculate 65% of that full maximum load, and that should be your UPS rating.

Example:

1. Max full system load = 450W

2. 65% of 450W = 293W

3. Adding (1) and (2) = 743W

So the UPS should be around 745W

Check:

65% of 745W = 484W

It does not matter what PSU one is using, when calibrating a UPS. Its the full load one will encounter.

Oh cool so for my system I should go for the 1kva ups. But in that seperate thead that i have mentioned, there is something called power factor correction etc. So if you dont use a ups with a pure sine wave output thats not gonna work?...is that a problem?...cause if you go for a pure sine wave ups then thats gonna be really costly...

^^

1 KVA would be good for your. Regarding pure sine wave, my thoughts on that were this. It is from the same thread. There are many schools of thought regarding this, people will debate. You will have to make the executive decision. I have been using a non pure sine wave UPS on my TX650 for past 9-10 months. All seems fine, till now.

Thats it!! Going for a cheaper one yeaaaaaahhh...

Well on a more serious note...I just need 5 - 10 mins of power to close everything and switch off my system.

I read your thoughts too in the other thread...makes sense actually...

550 VA is the borderline. If you add any HDD or put load on GPU while playing games, the UPS will make an overload beep.

I had the same UPS from APC. But after I put a 8800 GTX and played Crysis, it started beeping. So I guess it is the load that you put on the SMPS. But since you have a high end SMPS, I guess you intend to add GPU etc. So it the the best to go for 650 VA min. Or less there were cheaper options available auch as VX450.

I do appreciate your help! thanks for the info
But when u say, i need to go for 650va min for a tx650 psu, or if it want a less VA ups, i need to go for vx450

how does it matter what psu i choose, it ultimately depends on the load and efficiency of the psu @ the rated load
TX650 will offer better efficiency than VX450, since the load will be less on the former

^^

I am not using one on my TX650. Have a normal APC 1.1KVA.

@Spectre:

How will 650W vs 450W offer better efficiency. Both are certified silver I think..?

Any doubts on whether APC Back UPS will work with Corsair PSU can be put to rest now

APC Back UPS 550VA works flawlessly well with my Corsair TX 650 PSU

It connect my rig, lcd, 2 modems and few power adapters

On 2D mode, backup is about 12-13 mins

On 3D mode(gaming), backup is about 4 mins

One good thing is, the UPS runs on battery even when the pc is off ( no minimum load required)

I can use my lappy with just the modems powered by UPS

Fits my needs perfectly

One thing i want to know, Is the Voltage regulation on these UPS as good as a stabilizer
