Alrighty guys need help yet again. This time I have no clue about the purchase whatsoever as I have never researched across this component,EVER.:(

So anyways the powercuts in our area are getting pretty nasty these days & I don't want my HDD or any other component going dead due to it.I need a stable UPS to handle my below mentioned config.Budget within 2k or may be a bit higher would do depending on how important it is.

Also I have no clue what it actually does apart from the fact that it would provide a back up power just long enough to shut down my PC in case of a power cut.Now I need a bit more info on what more advantages do I have with it? Is it really needed? What things should I keep in mind when purchasing it?

Please help people & thanks yet again as always.:)

The APC 650VA will do the job just fine. It has PC connectivity which will help you monitor the UPS and set options for shutting the PC down when running on battery and also auto restart when electricity returns. On full load it will provide backup for around 15-20 mins.

You can also use the UPS selector below.

Hey thanks man.Had the same advice given by one of my other good friend so am seriosuly considering going for this one. What's the current cost?

I just ordered the APC BR-800 IN... 5300 bucks... Has got a backup of 10mins fer ful load.. Fer ur purposes the 650VA shud suffice and the price above is correct...

Okay dude, just bought Microtek Heritage 600va..its good

Coz it supports indian standards well, like voltage fluctutions and sometimes there is little less voltage then normal...it still doesn't put computer on battery ..

whereas my old APC used to put my PC on battery, even when generator used to be working ...so I wasn't able to use my PC ..but was able to switch on my A/C . ..

just my 2 cents ;)

erm not sure, coz haven't paid yet.

But shudn't be more than 2500...I suppose (as my dealer said)

Because we haven't yet calculated the cost of my new pc

2500/- for a microtek 600VA??? you can get APC 650VA for ~2800 bucks. as for generator problem simply decrease the UPS sensitivity through its software.

O/T: how is powersafe UPS? price wise they are very economical, dont know about their quality....

This really depends on the avg duration of your power cuts and how frequent they are. For your specs i'd say the 650 kVA is a bare minimum. Understand that with your specs, you will be running the battery down completely in < 10 mins. Batteries can typically handle 120 deep discharges before they need replacement. If your house has a generator then you might get away with a smaller model.

Otherwise you could try to ride out a power cut with a larger model.

I have a APC RS-1000, which i can set the sensitivty of the UPS using the software provided which also allows the UPS to be monitored via a USB connection. The 1000kVa model is also the minimum size that allows an external battery to be attached for longer battery duration.

How good would you say Microtek's software is in comparison to that of APC ?

APC 650VA -> 2.8K

Well i get 16minutes backup while using around 200Watts.
(from this calculate your own backup time)

Don't even compare Microtek with APC man. APC services rocks!

Well,

The APC guy told me nothing can be done to fix the issue. and yeah I know about putting USB wire and about the tweak from the software. But it really didn't helped me.

and yeah ofcourse apc is apc...no comparison.

But microtek seems like wanna have market share, and doing lovely things for no doubt..2 yr warranty on battery and ups both...and service ofcourse i get from my ups guy...

APC UPS's are assembled here for export...

2 yrs is a std warranty with them too.

the only reason i can think of not to get an APC UPS (BACk-UPS series) is if you have an Antec PSU, apparently it gives a buzzing sound when the UPS switches on..however wierd that may sound ;)

I have had the same experience as Raghav with my APC UPS. Although it served me excellently when I was in Delhi with no problems whatsoever, it has been very very irritating ever since I have shifted back to my hometown.

Here we constantly have low voltage problem and a lot of the time we get power through generator when there's load-shedding. I have 2 APC ES-500 and 1 Microtek. Both my APC UPSs cant handle the low voltages and keep switching back and forth from power to battery every second. It gets very irritating and sometimes the PC even restarts. I have tried decreasing the sensitivity through Powerchute software and although it helped, sometimes I still face similar problems. The Microtek on the other hand is rock solid and works perfectly in all conditions.

I guess if you do not have low voltage problems, you can go in for APC and if you do the Microtek will be a better choice. It basically gets down to the fact that even though Mercedes might be much better technologically, you still are better off with a Tata Sumo on Village roads.

Ahh, see the microtek then allows your PC to operate at a lower voltage.

Is such a low voltage safe to work with for the PSU ?..APC seems to think not.
