Hi Guyz.. Am in urgent need of a wi-fi enabled router. Gone through many threads in the forum and am really confused:S. Hence thought of posting my requirements and getting your valuable suggestions :)

I'm using BSNL's Huawei MT882 modem. I plan to wifi enable my home ( about 1400 sq ft coverage) for which i need a router.

I have some queries as well:

1) Will i be able to use my current MT882 modem alongwith the new device ? (will prefer to use it along)

2) I'm really confused to go for a router or Modem+router. Please ellaborate on the difference between the two.

3) Should we really go for N series router ??

Now here are the requirements:

  • Looking for Netgear or Linksys Products only
  • USB port must
  • Open firmware support ( I plan to flash it with a suitable firmware and use it for 24x7 torrent downloads and attach a USB external hard disk as well )
  • Budget: approx 2.5k
Thanks

I got belkin wireless G router from Prime last week and its nice and serves all my purpose. :)

I got it for rs.1500

ANSWERS:

1. YES

2. go for a router wont bother to explain the difference...

3. N router helps if you exchange files over your network (wireless network ) and have multiple devices connected - WONT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO INTERNET.

regarding usb support linksys routers with open firmware and budget of 2500 - NO WAY

you will have to compromise

ELSE there is a ASUS ROUTER THREAD FOR 2500 - go for that meets all requirements

no idea of netgear - not a big fan (personal opinion) i use wrt54g on tomato myself

hope this helps
