I hadn't thought of setting up a download rig till today morning.

A few items on sale here and elsewhere depend on this decision.

This is what I'll be needing-

-Mobo

-Processor

-Chassis

-Generic PSU

-HDD

Rest I have.

I have ~5k with me. Would it be possible to accommodate the above mentions in this budget?

or should I go for the WD MyBook World Edition 500gb?

I only have a few hours to decide.

TIA

what will be cheaper, Asus M2NMX + Sempron LE1200 combination or the atom thing?

The Atom combo'd set you back by 3.5k at least depending on the location. The M2NMX and Sempron combo could cost you the same with a bit of added flexibility.

1GB of RAM would be around ~650 bucks (667MHz). Pair it with a 250GB SATA hard drive. Add a generic 400W PSU from Zebronics (~400 bucks).

Who needs an enclosure? Dump it in some shoe box for the time being.

this is what i got for my download rig

intel atom n270-3.5k(+VAT)

iBall baby cabinet-1.65k(+VAT)

500 gigs segate hdd-3060

so thats add up to 8400/- see my thread in this section only

I Configured my download rig as below:
CPU :AMD Sempron LE 1100: 1400 ( Underclocked @ 1Ghz & Undervolted 0.8)

Mobo: Gigabyte 740G : 3100

Ram: 1GB Transcend : 700

HDD: 80 GB Segate Sata 7200.10 : 1600

Cabinet : Zebronics Basic : 600

PSU: My old Intex: 300 Watts

Power Consumption Idle @ Just 30 Watts:hap2:

Nicely Done.....I guess if you let your proccy run at full potential woth C&Q it would consume the same amt of power.

The download rig had been postponed a bit.

Now I have ~Rs.2000 with me. I'll buy what I can now and rest later.

I have 1GB Ram + Generic PSU + Homemade cabbie (yet to be made.)

What I need is a mobo + proggy + HDD.

This is what I had in mind. The Below cpu+mobo combo seems to be powerful enough yet consume low power.

Proggy - AMD Sempron LE1200 - 1.4k

Mobo - Asus M2NMX SE - 2.2k

HDD - A new or used 80gb ??

Are these the best prices for these products?

It would be fantastic if I could somehow get these on ebay using those 15-20% discount coupons.. :ohyeah: ..

what say?

and what is C'n'Q? :S

Why not the Sempron LE1100? Has it been discontinued already? :S

Oh and the Intel Atom combo retails for ~3.6k. Just FYI.

Why dont you try and get a 2nd hand deal on a used Athlon XP processor (say the 3000+ or the likes) with a 939 socket motherboard. Should be retailing for 2k. Check the market section.

CnQ stands for Cool n Quiet. ~ to Intel's Speedstep tech, this's AMDs answer to power saving and lowering the clocks when the processor idles. Results in lesser heat dissipation and pwr consumption. :)

won't the sempron combo be more powerful than the atom?

LE1100 or LE1200 would be fine, I'll pickup 1100 if its cheaper.

Athlon XP and the like will consume more power, and I don't need a powerful CPU. Its just a d/l rig.

What could u do with more pwrful specs in a download rig

Better flexibility yeah but otherwise nothing much.

And as for the pwr consumption/heat dissipation vs price its a trade-off! :cool2:

If it runs 24x7, get the Sempron combo.

well wont the atom be a good choice considering it has lesser power consumption or am i wrong, and what ever happened to MSI wind desktop wasnt the power consumption about 60watts max.

I'm planning to run it 24x7. How much power would a low-end atom or sempron build consume with a 120gb hdd attached, ~300w?

Power consumption is a major decision.

My budget roughly is ~4.5k(cpu+mobo+hdd+psu)

might aswell spend a lil more and buy a NAS drive?
