I'm getting everything within 4.5k, money is not the criteria anymore.

All I wanna know is how much power would such a rig choosofy.

cuz i can invest 1500-2k more and get a nas drive which would consume very less bijlii.

I read some bad reviews for the NAS drives. Slow xfer speed and all. Besides, you getting it and all is fine, is it configurable to understand torrents, etc and download them?

I was looking at it because it looks like such a sweet deal. Tiny little novel size disk that acts as a server. Pretty kick ass imho.

I'm planning to run it 24x7. How much power would a low-end atom or sempron build consume with a 120gb hdd attached, ~300w?

Power consumption is a major decision.

My budget roughly is ~4.5k(cpu+mobo+hdd+psu)
might aswell spend a lil more and buy a NAS drive?

a atom powered rig with 2 HDD with 100% load on processor,no dvd writer,no usb devices and no additional fans will consume around 80watts of power the same with a sempron LE-1250 will consume around 130watts.

WD External HDDs have been modded to run Linux, so you can download torrents. Google for "WD myBook hacks" and you'll find the how-to's

Of course, you'd be forfeiting the warranty if you do mod it.

How you checked it practically and which SMPS was used for testing?

I checked practically my AMD system which consumes normally 75 watts for CPU and with 17" CRT monitor 120 watts. Config as follows

Jetway M28GT3-SDG motherboard

AMD x2 4400+ processor

Patriot 2 GB 800 Mhz ram

Samsung 160 gb sata harddisk

I-Ball 400 watts smps

Coolermaster Elite 332 rear 120 mm fan running.

Total 75 watts when doing normal work.

Monitor: Samsung sync master 789mb plus

47 watts, sometimes 45 watts only.

Total system wattage normally with default values 120 watts.

Just checked once by downclocking ram to 400 mhz and cpu voltage to 1.15, then wattage comes to 50 watts for cpu, and with samsung monitor downclocked system consumes total only 95 watts.

meter used. Mastech ms2002 ampere meter.

If somebody from Chandigarh give the opportunity to test an Intel's atom and an amd's le 1250+ system, then I can tell how much they are consuming and which is good Intel atom or AMDs sempron le 1250+ will be appropriate for downloading system.

Rather than considering sempron you could consider celeron430&gigabyte G31 2.4k

This link was given by sindhupunjab..chk it..you would get a rough idea that dual or quad core proccy of intel consume very less than their rated TDP...

AnandTech: Debunking Power Supply Myths

So a celeron with 35W TDP should consume least...

well that was just to give him a rough idea of the difference in power consumption of atom powered chipset and sempron processor all at 100% TDP and 100% system load, and it was calculated in antec website .

I'll most probably be going for the WD 500G World edition.

So much less jhunjhat.

get atom combo man, spend lil more but get latest things with warranty.

buy 2nd hand ram n hdd from somewhere with atleast 2-3 years warranty bas..
