Okay guys - I need your help.

I'm contemplating of getting a Wii, but previously when it was going for ~20k in Indian markets (still is in shops like Croma), it was completely out of my budget. I just came across a shopkeeper (who's also a family friend), and this guy is willing to sell a modded Korean version for 12.5k, a seperate Nunchuk + Remote set for 2.4k, and games separately for 100 bucks each.

While that can work out to 15k initially, I wanted to get an opinion from you guys on whether I should go on with this deal or not. Since its modded, there's no warrranty, and moreover, he'll charge for each repair. Is there anyone out there who has a modded wii? Can you guys share your experience? I did a bit of research on this forum itself and there were a couple of threads with similar questions, but there was no real answer to them.

I'll be getting it within a week, and since I really don't trust the shopkeeper that much, any help from you people will really be appreciated!

:)

what is your location? Korean Wii are going for 11.5-11.9k in Bangalore.

Most likely they would be soft modded, ie no hardware chip. Compatibility is 1:1

Wii are notoriously difficult to mod through hardware. Make sure its not just soft-modded before buying. Also be careful before using new games. Some of them can upgrade firmware, thus bricking modded Wiis.

I'm from Pune. Just had a talk with Alfa (Mumbai) though, they said the same one should come within 12k. Surprisingly, they're charging more for the controller (3.4k combo nunchuk + remote), whereas they ONLY sell original CD's. Don't understand the logic.

Anyways, back to the topic - so soft mod's are BAD? What's the difference (Except that it has no hardware chip). And why are US Wii's costlier then?

Thanks anyways guys, Positive reps coming your way! :)

Its pointless to buy modded Wii if you are going to use original CDs.

Nunchuck and Remote are part of Wii package. There should not be any need to buy them separately unless you want an extra pair.

I am not sure but I think hardware mod is more resilient. Moreover once you buy soft-modded/un-modded Wii, you may not go for hardware modding for the fear of bricking it. So better to buy already hardware modded.

US Wii are more expensive because display is in English. Shouldn't matter once Games are running since they will be in English, no matter where Wii is from.

No, I'm not going to buy Original CD's - that's the whole point of going with a modded one. I know Nunchuk and Remote are part of the package, but w/o another controller its boring to always play alone.

BTW, aren't modded Korean versions menu's displayed in English too? If not, it would be super-difficult to navigate.

Thanks anywauys!

softmod would mean you would need to have some amount of awareness as to what ish appening in the homebrew scene to be able to play backups and prevent yer system from getting bricked. And knowing the language is not necessary as the homebrews will be in english
