Hi guys i need urgent install help,, boot the dvd sucessfully after select partition its ask installation type here getting single option "New Installation" but here i am getting one message :
" IMPORTANT: Installting Windows Home Server will erase all data on all of your hard drives. If you have data that you would like to preserve, please cancel the installtion process now."

I have 2 * 80 GB and 1 x 160 GB my installtion partition is 10 GB on 160 GB HD.

so i'm afraid while perform the installtion process,, what about my remain 2 * 80 GB drives of data (I had total 120 GB of data in all of my HD)..

:(

yaa but as per WHS details when put new HD on WHS operating system it want disk analyze then able to use the disk,,(analyze mean format)

This is most likely why, it has a new system called WHS that it uses for the drive array.

WHS is the way it handles storage: You can very easily add and remove storage from a home server, and never need to deal with drive letters or arcane Windows file sharing issues. WHS is also fully expandable, so third parties can ship add-ins for WHS that extend its capabilities in fun, exciting, and useful ways.

Also innovative is WHS' approach to file redundancy. Rather than burden the user with complicated technologies like RAID, WHS instead supplies a very simple interface that ensures that important files are duplicated across at least two physical drives, ensuring that if one drive fails, you won't lose anything critical. I've configured WHS so that all of my digital photos are duplicated in this fashion, while videos are not. File duplication is configured on a per share basis and is automatic if you have two or more drives connected. You can, however, configure this feature as you will.

Finally, WHS also makes it easy to remove storage. This way, if you want to disable older, less voluminous storage devices and plug in newer, bigger drives, you can do so without interruption. First, WHS will copy whatever data is on the older drives to other drivers, and then it will remove that drive from the storage pool so you can disconnect it. (Obviously, this will require enough free space on other drives.) Brilliant.

I guess this needs thorough understanding first rather than giving it a Blind Attempt. I tried a quick VMWARE install but it refused to recongise the Hard disk on the virtual machine.......

So until we're really aware of how it handles the "attached" hard disks, don't take chances with imp. Data

EDIT: Changed the Virtual Hard disk from SCSI to IDE, & keep it more than 70GB(growing) & it installed.

It's tempting, I was thinking about installing it too, but I read that it is based off of server 2003 anyway, so I think I am going to install that instead.

Aaaaaah!! I found this

WHS is home-based server software, based on a rock-solid Windows Server 2003 core

From Paul Therott's site here

WHS is based off Win2k3, but it serves a different purpose. Install it if you need those features (the automated backup, drive array etc). You won't get those in W2k3, not without a lot of work and expense.
