hi all,
my sis is going for biotech in university of texas at dallas.
flying in second week of august,
i am searching for flights so far i have found klm which goes mumbai to amsterdam to dallas in two flights.
its coming out for 39k through travelocity.
how is klm and any other site for better deal?
how do i manage excess baggage?
it allows two articles of 23 kg and 12 kg of handbag.

any ideas for better deals?
i am looking for better luggage allowance.
this klm guys give 20 % discount if i check excess baggage online.

pls advise.
thanks.

Did you check Air India and Jet Airways for students concessions? I remember they used to have such things for students flying abroad.

KLM is good. I have personally traveled by it and it is really good. Good service with plenty of baggage allowance. In fact looking at most other carriers that allow only one check-in bag of 50 pounds (~22kg), KLM is excellent that way.

Other option for greater baggage allowance is Air India. But if you can tolerate the shoddy service then it's worth it.

*Feeling of home with smell of spices and curry with tons of dust in the aisles right until you get off the aircraft - that's Air India for you!* :P

Check with respective airline websites for better prices. ofcourse with Air India and Jet Airways you have double baggage allowance(afair ~50kg)

I think you should look for emirates also, my brother is going for his undergradute studies in NY(Buffalo) via Dubai for Rs44k.

^^^ You forgot to mention the uncles and aunties who take care of the passengers. :P

On topic, as suggested above, do give Emirates a try.

I would go with Delta airlines. They offer 2 bags of 23 kg each and hand bag of 8kg I guess.

Jet airways is coming up with edujetter program in first week of June, so wait if you can. Air India too introduces student offer around mid june.

Here is what I found out till now on baggage allowances:

Air India - 2 ( 3 for student offer)

Delta - 2

Jet airways - 3 (for edujetter that was offered last year)

British airways - 2

Virgin Atlantic - 2

Continental -2

Lufthansa - 1 ( I saw they offered only 1 -23 kg)

Air France - 2

I am planning to buy for myself soon will wait till mid June. Anyone knows of any agent in Pune who can give better prices for bulk booking? :P

thanks for all replies.:)
i also had offered her air india.
she flat out refused it off.

i got her klm flight with 39k cost through travelocity and it has got 23 kg * 2 bags and 7 kg hand bag.

plus 20 % discount if you check excess baggage online.
i did check emirates but it was having 2 stops in between.
the one i booked is for her and her room mate.
its going mumbai to amsterdam to dallas.
both girls happy at deals.
the others in her group got duped for 43k each through agent.

i will suggest go by your own booking,
agents dont always give you best deal.
unless you know them personally.

i will be going by emirates- A380.:D
it has 2 stop overs but i am happy to do some site seeing along.:)
planning it off in october or so for another exam.

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

now this travel part is done.

she is asking for proper phone to use over their.

i suggested a world phone like blackberry 9650 or alike.

she wants blackberry style 9670.

the thing is like she is adamant kid.(younger sis)

she wants this one and sprint is having it on contracts to which she wont be applicable.

(she is yet to get her social security no. and credit history in US)

i searched on ebay to get this phone unlocked and its not their.

none of the ebay unlockers that i found , unlock the style 9670.

what can we do here?

i think now with clean records she can get prepaid phone or so and after wards in 304 months get a usual contract phone.

what you say guys?

what is best way out.

Dont rely on the information on the websites of international airlines.

Almost all Airlines offer 2 luggage bags when you are traveling from India to US and if its round trip, you get same allowance while coming back. The single bag allowance mentioned on their websites dont apply in these cases.

ita almost always 2 bags of 23 kg.

confirm before you book your flight.

call up the airlines.

that works out best.
