won't it take ages to charge given the low power of USB ports?

The capacity of USBCELL is 1300mAH – this is greater than some ordinary NiCad and NiMH batteries. Some new high-capacity NiMH batteries can go up to 2500mAH. However, with USBCELL you can simply recharge or top-up by plugging into a USB port rather than going off to find a wall charger and adaptor. Make sure that the battery is fully charged – the charge should take about 5 hours by USB and the light should go off when USBCELL is fully charged.

Not at all! USB ports can provide as much as 500mA of current per port; USB voltage is 5V. Thats more than enough power to charge a battery of 1300mAH capacity in less than an hour at full current. Reading the FAQ on the site says that it draws only 250mA of current.

In fact quite a few devices like MP3 players, PDAs etc charge their batteries whenever they're connected to a PC's USB port to sync them up.

Had posted this a while back ... http://www.techenclave.com/forums/charge-batteries-via-usb-79563.html ... wonder how long will it take before we'll be able to actually get them

Ooops ... missed your thread. :ashamed:

Some of the shops at Lamington road do have a wide selection of batteries. Possibly these may already be available. Some time back I walked into Cassette World (Ooops again :) ) and I saw at the back of that shop a lot of different brands of batteries - as expected they had been priced way to high !!
