Hello Friends,

Just wanted to know what is difference between USB & PS2 port mouse? Any difference in Click Response Speed etc.... :S

Thanks

^ i guess you have to restart everytime you plug something to a ps2 port unlike the usb ( plug and play).

USB mice are now coming out with legacy free pcs (those which don't have a ps2 port) and are hence considered more portable (not every laptop has a ps2 port, but all have one or more usb). any case there are usb to ps2 converters available for around Rs. 40/-. Not sure if there are any ps2 to usb converters available

USB2.0 has a very high bandwidth though i dunno whether that should matter for normal keystrokes unless you use uber gaming grade mice with very high polling frequencies ( all of them come with a usb 2.0 interface for a reason I guess) :bleh:

Don't know if there is any difference in performance, but there is definitely a difference in convenience.

PS2 devices are a royal pain in the backside. If for some reason your mouse/keyboard isn't detected/stops working suddenly, the only option is to restart your system.

get a USB mouse with a PS/2 converter :P the advantage as i see it is that you dont have a usb port goto waste cos of the mouse ;) Thats what i do... in case you wanna connect thru usb, u can always do that too :)

I had MS Basic Optical Mouse with PS2 converter but 2 same mouse gives me lot of problem with Pointer Dance & Right Click in one years of use.

This time MS give me NEW BOX PACK MOUSE saying it is Enhanced Version of Mouse but now I face hardship to trust MS Basic Optical Mouse.

My dealer through whom I got exchange offer me to take any other mouse. I ask for logitech, he have Logitech New Value Optical Black USB Mouse (no PS2 converter) & Logitech Value Optical PS2 Mouse.

Now with New version of Logitech mouse (increase in middle hight compare to older version) I find that the Red Rays come out from the gap between Scroll and left/right click buttons & directly hit to my fingers, I'm worried that 10-12 hrs use and get hit by UV rays may create any sort of health issue?

Now the advantage with New Version is that bottom part have Solid material (no transparent) so you can not notice any light.

Now the other option left for me is the PS2 version as the same version avail with old design (flat back compare to new version) No Rays Leakage here.

Any more suggestion which one to choose....:S

:bangin:

Did you miss your school physics classes ?

i am not being condescending, but seriously man, the "red rays" is visible red light (700 nm lambda) from the LED optical sensor. Infra red radiation 750-1000 nm wavelength is not penetrative and has no health issues.

UV light (300 nm) is harmful though in not the amounts in consumer electronic equipment. (You need some uv from sunlight to synthesize vit. D3. A 5 minute walk in day time suffices for days for this. A 30 minute walk at noon in Delhi requires a sun screen lotion)

If you worry about radiation, ditch the crt monitors you may have which are emissive (X ray emission when cathode rays strike the glass tube) and your cell phone (electromagnetic field can affect polarization of cells and thus transcription ... can lead acoustic neuromas in the long term)

Trust me. I am a doctor.

^^ Thanks.

My tech knowledge is very limited, but some where I read that if the Optical Mouse Rays hit directly to Eye it may create some problem, is it true?

Absolutely not. No problems with optical mice.

But probably those laser mice can cause problems. You shouldn't even directly focus those red laser pointers used in presentations upon your eyes.

^^What's difference between Optical (no ball) & Laser Mouse :S :ashamed:

Regular optical mice have an infrared sensor and source. The Laser Mice have a laser as source and usually a high precision sensor which gives high resolution tracking ability.
