USB problem in Windows 7

I am having this strange issue on my windows 7 laptop. My laptop is recognising only my Galaxy S' usb connection. All other usb connection from thumb drives, reliance net connect devices etc is not showing up. I can see those thumb drives/external hdd in my "Devices and Printers" but unable to open them. Strangest thing of them all is when I connect any of those devices, the driver installation runs and it is sucessful. After that I can see the I:/J: drive icon under my computer. On clicking them it asks me to insert a cd to those devices. Worst of it all - The icon doesnt go away even if I unplug my device. Any ideas how can I clean the usb drivers and install new ones?

this problem was coming up when i installed virtual machine s/f on my windows 7 laptop. My tata photon and other external USB devices were not working. But then i reinstalled earlier version of s/f and then it worked. So have u installed any s/f due to which you are facing such problem??

Hi,

follow the follwing and revert please

1. Plug in the usb device.

2. Right click my computer and click on manage

3. Click on the device manager on the left and navigate to USB devices and expend the list

4. Locate the problem usb drive or device and right click and click on uninstall

5. Unplug the usb device, and wait for a few seconds, now reconnect the usb device and let windows find the drivers needed to install, once installed, you should be able to use the device.

unistall the whole hub from device manager and restart the system.. let the installation finish.. in the mean time disconnect all usb devices.
