Is this only for the 820/822? Because all the Indian 920s came with the Portico from the factory and I have no issues with this update.

Can you please post some links from where you got the firmware and also some basic steps for flashing if possible.
I did find some links at WPCentral but am not sure if they are for 820 or 822.

You will have to manually look for auctions but you can use Auction Snipper to bid.

bad esn is a term only limited to the particular carrier it is sold on. if its unlocked for other GSM carriers, then it will work here in india for sure.

Bought a brand new sealed unit for $155!

Th phone came with the Portico update pre-installed. Now have to flash the previous version to fix data and SMS!

Yes, that is correct, the firmware that work outgoing sms was apparently the one used in the 822 prototype.
