I have tried netflix here in US and am hooked. I know many or infact most of these services won't work in India. So i have opened this thread to ask members here if they are using any streaming services in India and if yes then what and how. I know few basics like we can do VPN and all. But person experiences from people here would be more appreciated.
Also are you using your laptop connected to HDTV or some sort of dedicated hardware media player to use the services ?

Don't you know that broadband in India $**ks , so forget about using those services here, better stick to torrents.

Yes and the connection at my home in Mumbai is 512 kbps daytime and 1 Mbps night. Guess i will have to upgrade my connection if i want these things. Will also have to check hayai if it provides service in my area.

It works great, i am using the same, only thing required is a US DNS, go for any good provider and you will not face any issues.

Have been using these services for a while now, more than a year, on various devices around the house. Started off by using the US DNS services as well as VPN providers, both free and paid, for a few months. But I already had a rented VPS for which I was paying $5 monthly and ended up running a VPN server on it. At first I used to connect to the VPN individually from either my PC or my HTPC. Later on I setup a spare wifi router flashed with dd-wrt for a dedicated VPN connection, giving me a separate wifi network around the house for any device which required a US IP.

As far as the US DNS services go, IIRC they used to be tied to a certain set of services, so if the website/service you want to access lies within that set then it would do for you. However, if you generally want a US IP for browsing around other websites etc., then you'd need a VPN. Regarding the internet speed, a year and a half back I had a 2 Mbps connection on which SD content would stream fine always, but HD (720p) content would work only if the connection was not being used for anything else at all! But since upgrading to a 4Mbps connection its been working great. Do note that using a VPN brings down the connection speed a bit, so you would need to account for that, although i've noticed that the drop while using my own VPN server is negligible compared to using a VPN provider (4->3.75 Mbps versus 4->2.75/3 Mbps).

Services which we access around the house include Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, VUDU, HBO GO, ESPN3, Spotify, Pandora etc. and these are accessed via PC, HTPC, PS3, Roku, tablet or phone. Hope this helps!

Broadband scene in India has been a limiting factor to use such streaming services apart from their accessibility, to which, of course there have always been work-arounds. But with the likes of Hayai and all coming in things would hopefully improve.

I had tried netflix here and was able to make Hulu work too but considering the work needed and the time it takes to load the video its better to just download it from Usenet or Torrent-an average 190 mb episode will take about 1 hour

Thank raksrules for creating this thread.

But I have a query, I want all these serials/channels to watch on my Android Tablet but apps like Hulu, Netflix, HBO GO, Xfinity TV are not available in market for Indian users & even if I download/try to download using proxy playstore, it gives error : This item cannot be installed in your device's country.

Let me know how can I install these apps on Motorola Xoom & stream live content.

I prefer Google Music, uploaded my 10-12gb collection and stream music whenever I want. It saves my Phone space to carry more games and movies. You need US proxy to sign up for Google Music, and once you're done, you don't need proxies to stream or upload music content. Better option than other shitloads of music streaming apps that requires US IP all the time.

haris5sani What AsidXxx said is what you would need to do. There's another app which I use - 'MarketAccess', pupose is the same though and both require a rooted device. If your Xoom isn't rooted, but you have access to any other rooted device, you could install the apps on that and then copy the apk from /data/app using RootExplorer onto your device to install.

There are ways to download the apk from play.google.com using a browser as well, but haven't tried it personally so can't comment on that.

I hope you already know that in order to use HBO GO and Xfinity you would need someone with an active cable connection in the US and these 2 services in their bouquet and that the free version of Hulu is not accessible on mobile devices - u would need to subscribe to Hulu Plus.

Hey Thanks AsidXxx & Niks.
My Xoom is rooted, i will install Market Enabler & MarketAccess today when i reach home.

But my question is how can i change my location/IP to US or how to change DNS. Any android app regarding the same will be much appreciated.
BTW i m using Reliance BB(Thunder Plan).

Also, neerajvohra can you tell me how you have uploaded your personal collection.
I am unable to open google music with my current google a/c even using proxy.
Getting this error all the time: The Google Play music player is currently available in select territories.
Any help for current google a/c that can be used with google music ?
If i am correct you are using this app to playback & upload songs ??

To activate Google Music outside the US, follow these simple steps:
1. Go to browsertunnel.com
2. On that page, in the address text field, enter https://music.google.com
3. Log in and accept the agreement
4. Download the Google Music uploader tool and start uploading your music!

Once, you have activated Google Music you dont need any proxies etc. You can follow more guides here.

AsidXxx : I have tried your above steps, but after step 3.
When i press on Upload Music - Nothing happens.

I tried with other proxies, even enabling/disabling Javascript but no luck.

I have separately downloaded & installed Google Music Uploader tool, but while opening it with my credentials, its not opening.
I have retried many times.

& When i click on Music player, it took me to 1st screenshot above.

This thing is going in a loop, help me to solve this.

Thanks

Have you folllowed the steps mentioned above? You need to follow that from a web browser. Once, your account is active, Google will prompt you to download music uploader.

Or if you use team viewer, DM me your gtalk ID, I can remotely setup for you.

neerajvohra : It seems that they have changed the account activation method, it is now asking for a us based credit card to set up my account with google music. Can anyone help me on this.

Pretty straight forward if you're using an Ipad. Use a US account and download the apps from the appstore and you're done! Hulu and Netflix both work....No VPN etc required...
