As long as you cleanly shut down your laptop before your battery depletes you should be fine.
I'm not sure about situations where you need to "hard reset" (user induced power loss?) a laptop if it becomes unresponsive for some reason. In such a scenario, any user data present in the DRAM buffer would be lost. However this would be an extreme case and not something that you should worry about on a normal day to day basis.
