Hi!

Of late there has a been a lot of activity in laptop buying queries section so i thought i would post this here.

I was passing the msi dealership from where i got my laptop the core 2 duo based models are being sold off cheap to clear the stock and p8xxx cpus powering the msi cr 400x are being sold for 29k. However from tomorrow the guy owning the dealership said there are core i3 and core i5 models coming in -- the classic series -- they are simple well built laptops - the same one i reviewed earlier-- these come with the core i3/core i5 cpus and almost all of them have ati radeon 4330--512mb/5470-512mb-1gb video solutions and windows 7 home/professional pre-installed.

will post the exact pricing in a couple of days - however the cheapest core i3 starts at 31k with a ati 4330 and goes upto 45k for the 14 inch cr420- core i5 with an ati 5470 which i feel is super VFM!

bottom-line -- cheap vfm well built and reliable laptops with good after sales service
 
MSI is definitely a very good brand and these laptops are designed to perform. Great stuff there from MSI without any doubt.
 
p8xxx cpus powered laptops being sold for 29k!! i wish i bought my laptop a month later! anyways will upgrade to a better laptop by Christmas this year.

As a thumb-rule the build quality of Msi laptops are exactly the same as Dell Studio laptops.

The looks are however similar to Compaq laptops.

The build quality is good and there are no issues whatsoever with Msi laptops. they just happen to be an unknown gold mine of amazingly priced and built laptops.

The ram used in the MSI laptops are all sourced from Elpida and Qimonda which are way superior to Nanya, Transcend or Hynix memory modules used in Dell or HP/Compaq or Acer.They come with better timings.

Please bear in mind that MSI Core i5/i3 solutions make more sense in the more portable 14.1 laptops if you want a superior 15.6 inch laptop look at Acer - minus the build quality and warranty off course.

i was thinking for msi but cudn;t find any msi dealers in my city nd was concerned about the after sales service thats why i went for dell
 
Check for ACER 5740 it beats the hell out of any other Laptop available in the market as of today. It has a really sturdy build as good as Studio but it doesn't have as good looks as a Studio15. Acer's warranty service is really good too.

It runs cooler than Dell studio15 or VaioCR or HPDV6(one with 1gb 4650). Idle temps are 40~45C procc & 38~39C HDD and load temps didn't go over(after 3hrs of gaming) 64C procc & 44C HDD. While playing 1080p movie temps were the same as idle temps. It has HDMI w/audio which I've not tested yet.

It's giving 3.5 hrs battery life if using office apps.; 2.5hrs if playing HD Content and 1.5 hrs of gaming. It can be further increased by more customization.

It's outperforming my Desktop(see my signature) in gaming(till now I've tried 2 games COD2 MoW + Assassin Creed and they run properly with all settings maxed at the native resolution of 1366X768).

I got it for Rs.43000 from PRIME ABGB + 4700 for 2yrs more. Get a Notebook cooler + a good mouse with it.

I'd say its a goddamn steal. So give this laptop a second thought if you're buying one.
 
@Op. Did you go through the manual of your laptop. It says that the 2 yrs warranty is only for the laptop and not for accessories (like battery & charger). Having the same lappy stated in your siggy except proccy and the manual says this.

my laptop manual says 2years limited warranty on the laptop and its contents---i confirmed with the service center where the msi people told me they are offering 2 years of warranty.
i have mentioned if you need a 15.6 inch laptop u can buy the acer but for a more portable solution MSI is better - its 14 inchers are really light mine weighs all of 2 kgs.
