Native resolution of this Panasonic PV7 is 1024 X 768. i know resolution doesn't matter above 720P

but i saw this on panasonic site

is this snake oil? Is the image quality gonna be atleast like 720P?

Depends upon what you are comparing to it. A 720p LCD will be significantly inferior while a real 1366x768 plasma will be superior to this. But then until the new gen panels arrive, in India one doesnt have a choice higher than 1024x768 at 42". Hitachi has a rather weird 1024x1080 panel but I don't like Hitachi plasmas so much.

Image quality is superb...Dont worry abt tat. Infact for your purpose(TV channels) this is perfect...

I have watched HD DVDs on this and its very very very good.

I got the PV70H but the panel is same as PV7H.

Also the picture looks surprisingly good when connected to PC.
