Hey guys..

I am trying to compress any AVI file... Xvid for Video Compressing... MP3 for audio..

I am gettin the following error..which i cannot understand...

I have compressed several AVIs on same way..but never encountered such problem...

What options do i have now...Is there any other way..if i can compress the file...without looosing much of quality..

Regards,
Dipen

ah yes .. a very simple solution ...however i must say providing details like the source file type would have helped . i would recommend encoding video and audio seperately using virtualdub mod and besweet both found bundled in the gordian knot rip pack , ( check sourceforge for that ) use virtualdub mod to encode videos as you normally do . the you would have a file with compressed video and uncompressed or untreated audio . you take the same video file and then use the audio section to demux the audio and then encode it to mp3 and then mux the file again with virtualdub mod .

If you rather want a 1 click solution then i would recommend autogk or drdivx or equivalent .

this sometimes happens to Vdub/Vdub MOD/NanDub. I'd rather delete the folder, Download a fresh copy & install again. That works for me always. Sometimes re-installing Xvid also helps in errors. I also noticed sometimes repetitive install/uninstall betw. diff NERO versions also leads to codecs not being located properly.

Hope that helps

AutoGK is for kiddies

U aint having a slightest Idea of what u can do with VDub manually. so stop giving stupid ideas rather than contributing to the threads actual subject.

Just a suggestion, wasn't it?

Reinstalled Xvid Drivers Twice..and same wid Virtual Dub...Tried Diff versions too..

I guess the Source file has some compatibility prob... or its ripping isnt properly done..

Will have to try AutoGk or Dr.Divx..

I am attaching a screenie of Source File Info....Lets see if we can still use by changing some settings..

The only thing i can tell here is that the source audio codec is AC3 , so unless you have AC3filter (freeware) that is not going to be read ... so there.....

Downloaded and installed AC3filter... Still the problem is same..

looks like will hav to try Dr.Divx

ffdshow is ultimate solution for any codec probs u may have, though i never use it 'coz it takes up everything for decoding on my system. But yes it can be a time saver for u if u don't wanna hunt around codecs & fine tuning things.

Just a piece of advice, if u've got a pretty fast PC, I'd recommend encoding to x264 codec. With Megui, its pretty easy once u know how to configure a good AVS script. nothing specific at x264 codec level to be tweaked unlike xvid. I personally almost always encode to x264 & put it in an MKV container. But yes u need pretty GOOD machine to Playback this video, & a really good muscle at CPU level to ENCODE into x264. But believe me, the quality:compression ratio kicks ass off!! xvid.
