Vista Beta 2 5384 - Installation Headache

Windows Vista Beta 1 - Virtual Hard Disk size and it's relation to the dreaded "Setup was unable to locate a locally attached hard drive suitable for holding temporary Setup files." error.

This window comes after i have formated the 9GB HDD and selcted the 9GB partition for installation.

Guys Vista has freespace req of 8GB i created a 9GB Vmware Virtual HDD

and still its giving me this error.

Also i formated it to NTFS and its still causing problems.

I have gone nuts trying to figure out a solution.

Please help.

Found Some thing on net but i didnt get what he wants to say.

Beta 2 refused to install on my partition which was 10GB.
I dropped the idea after that.
With RC1 i made a good big 16GB partition.
AFAIK it needs minimum of 12GB diskspace. Beta 2 needed more than that. CLose to 16GB.
 
No need of amy sort of extra space.

Just attached a extra ntfs partition in vmware and viola ur are done.

It requires a place where the setup can copy some temporary files.

A virtual hdd of 7.5GB wud also do it just requires some extra pre formated

partition [NTFS] where it can add temp setup files.



But had no audio support.

Also chk this guide.

there is something mentioned in this guide abt enabling audio on vista.

The default creative driver cudnt detect my sound blaster 5.1 :(
 
what are u doing with a beta 2 install now?

get vista rc1. it has a huge lot of improvements

and drivers for most of ur hardware. :D

i hope with the original key muh Vista OS will work properly

and will nt give any problems

RC1 takes exactly 12GB .

If you setup the paging file on different partition then 10GB.

I always setup paging file on my 2nd HDD.

Thanks for posting the exact space usage with RC1.

As on Beta 2 5384 it took exact 6.33GB after complete install.

So for RC1 i shud create a virtual HDD of 12GB Min.
