Vista *required* for Halo 2

Vista will come with 3 GUIs. The one called Aero Glass will need a seperate GFX (not built in) card supporting DX 9c. It will have all those cool transparent window effects. The secong GUI is XP like (non-transparent) but in Vista colors (called Aero Basic i think). The third GUI will be like classic Win 2k style. This means Vista will be capable of running on various hardware. Its just that u'll need a high-end PC for those eye-candy effects.

Also, regarding playing games when GFX card will be busy rendering windows, I've read somewhere that Vista will behave very intelligently in this regard. While you're playing games, Vista will automatically stop/suspend all background processes that are unlikely to be used during that time. It will restart the services once ur gaming session is over. That almost means the maximum possible resources will be available to your game. Now, isn't that cool? ;)

^^ hehe...if ur a "Halo" fan, u just will have to. :D

To me Vista will have enough new features including security, storage and visual changes that'll definitely make it worth 5k or more. The thing is, its the customers who'll have to decide if they need something more secure and more appealing than XP. That is unless MS works out strategies to force everyone to an upgrade (like this Halo 2 trick). ;)

I like the whole three GUI's but I would still prefer one where you could get all the fancy eye-candy and have the option to turn it on and off.

While I think suspending jobs whil using certain applicationa may sound cool, there are many that cannot and even those that can will only add to the memory which already has 512mb of it being used by the OS alone. Sounds like a waste to me.

I was looking forward to Halo2 too but not enough to get Vista the moment it releases.

I like how the guy in the video said Vista's support for DX10 will improve gaming perfomance 6 to 8 times. Looks wise, Vista looks like a fancy video or music player skin.:P

^ Only this time it might actually be true. MS is really pushing Vista+DX10 as a gaming platform, they plan to port every major X360 game over to PC as a 'Vista Only' title to ensure max performance/eyecandy/compatibility.

I purchased XP less than 2 years ago - doesn't make sense for me to go out and purchase a new OS no matter what features/capability it has - simply put, MS new strategy = BS :@

It's not like MS is making it compulsory to get Vista. If you're happy with XP then you can obviously stick with it like I'll be. MS made Halo2 solely vista compatible to add incentive to getting Vista. I severely doubt all the game devs are going to do the same.

None of the current ATI or NVIDIA graphics cards will support the full capabilities of Windows Vista.

I don't care abt the full capabilities of windows vista,it's Halo 2 I'm interested in(gonna set up a lan bloodfest wid some of my frnds since they don't have x360,it's been decided:bleh: ).Just hope tht my 6600gt is good enough:P for vista and halo 2
