this varies from circle to circle. I can confirm for kolkata circle, the 98/2gb works fine. this is vmc :)

at some circles it is 95 bucks though. need to check which circle you are in.

i m from kol.... does 98 rechrg wrks with -ve blnc ?? i hav -48 balance.. rechrged by 98 .... but net cnnction dosnt wrk

According to Vodafone you need to have atleast Rs. 10 balance for GPRS to work.

But what I've experienced is, you need to have that balance to GPRS to work first time after the recharge but won't need to maintain that. :P

This 599 offer on a 3G ready stick is an offer which is quiet old and continues till date. It is nothing but a 2G/EDGE UL plan for 599 rupees and one needs to buy the modem for 1750 rupees (IIRC). Currently since vodafone has this promotional 3G offer, anyone using this 599 stick plan / 2G mobile plan /or whatever 2G plan will get 3G speeds but only till vodafone keeps this offer. After that the 599 plan may be entirely phased out or may be limited to some capped speed (like tata has limited speed of normal GPRS users to 128kbps and reliance has i think capped to 64kbps when phone/modem is used in 3G mode)
Cool! So this means, the default plan would 599 plan would offer EDGE speeds, but the current 3G promotional offer will enable 3G on this plan with UL download, correct?

When I spoke to the CC, he said to activate 3G on my handset, I needed to send a specific SMS, ACT 3G to 144. Now how would this work on that USB stick thing?

^^ I guess in that case CC are best to answer. But i guess you can always put that SIM in some phone, send message and once 3G is activated, use it on the stick, unless all sort of SMS and Call making facilities have been barred on the SIM card which is provided by vodafone to be used in stick.

i sent the same sms from the data card sim and it worked fine for me. just you need to ensure that you are forcing the sim to use 3g network and not the 2g network

you wud need some balance. i have a sim which i was using for my datacard. now the current balance is showing up as -127 bucks and doesnt allow me to connect.

what I dont understand is how can the balance become negative ? I never call/sms from this no. n i dont think it any provider allows you to call/msg/use gprs on zero balance

What speeds are you getting right now?

Yes, Im on the 599 2g/gprs UNLIMITED plan with 3g "activated" and getting 8 mbps on my Nokia N900 !!! 3G signals are patchy though in Pune for now.

Once the official 3G tariffs are announced I guess it will be around Rs 750 per month for 3GB quota - similar to most other providers :)

it is more than 2mbps download, a bit more during off peak hours. m not much of a downloader and nor do i watch youtube or things, so hardly ever do a speedtest or stuff.

WTF ! i never shall understand. Evidently in my case they had deducted balance for caller tunes which I had never activated.
