Is it? A golden retriever is a subset of Labradors AFAIK. Even Wiki says the same.. The retrievers append-um is due to their origin as an hunter's assistant. They use to retrieve ducks/other game which were shot.orangewrath said:Lab is a pure breed, a Lab retriever as the name says is a mix of two (purebred) - a lab and a golden retriever.
There is no difference between Labrador & Labrador retriever. Labrador retriever is full name of Labrador species.orangewrath said:Lab is a pure breed, a Lab retriever as the name says is a mix of two (purebred) - a lab and a golden retriever.

The Labrador Retriever (also Labrador, or Lab for short) is one of several kinds of retriever, a type of gun dog. A breed characteristic is webbed paws for swimming, useful for the breed's original purpose of retrieving fishing nets. This and their subsequent use as hunting companions, gave them the name retriever. The dogs of this breed are very loving, kind and compassionate to their masters. The Labrador is the most popular breed of dog (by registered ownership) in the world, and is, by a large margin, the most popular breed by registration in Canada, the United States (since 1991),and the United Kingdom. It is also the most popular breed of assistance dog in Canada, the United States, Australia, United Kingdom and many other countries,[citation needed] as well as being widely used by police and other official bodies for their detection and working abilities. Typically, Labradors are athletic, and love to swim, play catch and retrieve games, and are good with young children.
The modern Labrador's ancestors originated on the island of Newfoundland, now part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The breed emerged over time from the St. John's Water Dog, (also a founding breed of the Newfoundland dog) through ad-hoc breedings by early settlers in the mid to late 16th century.

Right now, homeless dogs all across India are fighting for their lives. With only scraps to eat, many starve to death. Others suffer broken bones and infected wounds, are killed by vehicles or are abused by cruel people. Countless more animals wait behind bars in animal shelters because there aren't enough good homes for them.
DOG BREEDING IS A CRUEL PRACTICE.Breeders over breed fertile mothers who die within 3 years, and unsold pups or sick pups are put down. They don't really care, so you should always adopt an Indian puppy. They're more resistant low maintenance and as loving :]
ALWAYS AVOID BUYING PUPPIES.WHEN DEMAND GOES DOWN SO DOES SUPPLY.
Meanwhile, dog breeders produce litter after litter of puppies – every time someone buys a dog from a breeder or pet shop, a homeless pup loses his or her chance at finding a good home. We can stop the cycle of animal homelessness and save lives by opening our hearts and homes to a loyal, loving, 100 per cent Indian dog instead of buying animals from breeders or pet shops. It's also crucial to have our canine companions spayed or neutered in order to ensure that they don't bring more puppies into a world that is already short of good homes.
Indian dogs make wonderful, loyal companions. They are highly adaptable, quick learners and protective of their guardians. Indian dogs also tend to be free of many of the health and behavioral problems that plague their purebred cousins who are bred for certain unnatural physical traits such as squashed-in noses or long ears. They do not smell, drool, less susceptible to diseases and other ailments and are very adjusting. They turn to be very beautiful dogs under care of an owner.
It has been proven in many American dog shows that Strays are always better than breeds, they're stronger, healthier, friendly and more lovable!!
Best of all, when you make an Indian dog a part of your family, you not only save a life but also make a best friend for life.
DON'T SHOP!!!ADOPT!!!
MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! ONE PUPPY AT A TIME!
