so guys help me!!!

Hi Mohit, its good that you want a cam. with Li batteries, I was also looking in for a similar option & floated a thread too.

I checked out a Sony - 77series, actually I do not remember the exact model, its a touch screen for ~ 12k.

Nikon S - something is also a good cam in slim series.

Also, check out Samsung 79, its got a battery & photo meter.

I'll get back with specific model nos. later.

P.S: Make sure you buy a slim digi. cam.

the nikon s 550 and s560 seems to be pretty good with 5x optical zoom,

dont want a sony as many have said sony cams dont have good qualiyt and we always pay a premium for the brand name : sony.

so my choices r basically Nikon or cANON,

AS i have heard canon s have very good photo quality...

Here are a few choices:
-Cannon IXUS 100 IS ~13K
-Nikon coolpix S-230 ~12K
-Olympus-Mju 1050SW ~ 14K
-Sony-DSC-T77 ~ 12K, this is TS.
-Casio-Exilim-Z1080 ~14k
-Cut orice option -Nikon-Coolpix S210 ~ 6.5k

Cannon IXUS 100 IS seems to be decent at 12 mp but it has only 3x optical zoom.

i want one with 5x optical zoom even though it cud be less mp's

may be even 10.

Actually I was about to suggest you some sony cams but for some reasons you don't want sony. Believe me Sony cams are good. I'm using T70 touch screen since 18 months and it is excellent.

Among Nikon and Canon I'd suggest you to go for Canon. And for minimum 5X zoom you have to go for Powershot range as Ixus range mostly has 3X zoom.
But powershot range is not super compact and works on AA size batteries though they have excellent features and offer great value for your money.
In my view Sony W290 with with wide angle lens and 5X zoom is best option for you but since you don't want sony :ashamed:

Actually I told you W290, and yes W270 is also an option. the differece between W270 and W290 is just the screen size; W290 has 3" screen. And add add W170 to the list (10 mp) but it's hard to get it as it is an older model. W270 is available for around 15K with 2gb card and warranty. Grey market prices for camera will be around 10-11K.

well if u want image quality then check out models like the fuji F200EXR not sure about the price and also check out the sony W300 they both have huge sensors like the canon G series ,so as far as image quality goes they are much better then other camers in their price range.the carl zeiss lens on the sony produces great detail and colors are realy puncy again due to CZ lens.
drawback of these 2 cameras are they dont offer great zoom .since it is very hard for manufactures to put a high zoom lens in cameras that have a big sensor.

@ ajincoep In mumbai you can buy camera's from heera panna market or Alfa at Irla market. Without bill of course. alfa has with bill option also.
@ mohitpreet Try finding TZ11, I think it will be very hard to get as it is a old model. Specs look good but google for reviews.
@adder the color reproduction of sony camera are best and in supercompact range they are fastest as well...
fuji camera have got mixed reviews... Canon cameras always tend to get good reviews across all categories ( supercompact, compact, prosumer, DSLR), nikon gets best reviews for DSLR, Panasonic for prosumer(FZ28) take r pick....
BTW presently FZ28 retails for Rs22,500 and I picked one around 4 months back from grey for 17500/- khee khee
