Use the cadence braking technique - Brake hard at approach then lift off just before your wheels can lock up, then pump on them smoothly to bleed speed fast.

And braking while steering is a surefire way to lock up your front wheels.

Brake early, Accelarate while Turning! hyeah:

Accelerating while cornering will induce heavy understeer as the weight shifts towards the rear when accelerating.
