Want To Write 8.5gb Dvd's

HEY PEOPLE,
I AM IN TROUBLE.I HAVE A 300GB HDD AND IT IS FULL....... WELL I AM A MOVIE BUFF. THAT'S WHY.I HAVE A FEW RARE 8.5GB DVD'S MOVIES WHICH MUST BE REMOVED FROM MY HDD TO FREE UP SPACE.BUT.....I TRIED TWICE BY NERO AND WASTED TWO BLANK DVD'S WHICH BURNT THREE HUNDRED RUPEES!!!!!I HAVE SONY DVD WRITER AND A GOOD RIG(K8N MBD,AMD 3000+,512MB ACER RAM) BUT CANT SAY WHY THIS IS HAPPENING.MEY BE THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE SOFTWARE I AM USING.CAN ANY ONE SUGGEST ANY RELIABLE SOLUTION? :huh: _______EVERYONE PLS HELP ME_________:huh:
 
I split 8.5GB DVDs to 2 parts using DVDFab Platinum. Then write them individually on 2 single layer DVDs. Simple :)
 
Can u be more specific??

Are u using dual layer dvds???(jus askin..)

Exactly what happens when u try to burn them??
Any error mesg???
Does your writer support dual layer dvds??
 
WELL I USED RENOTECH 8.5GB BLANKS.THEY ARE DUAL LAYER SINGLE SIDED DVDs. THE VIDEO DATA WAS OF ABOUT 7.9GB.I USED NERO RECODE AND WRITING STARTED ON BOTH THE OCCATIONS AND ALMOST 5GB OF DATA IS READABLE ON THE SECOND OCCATION ie.IT TOOK ALMOST THREE OHRS AND I WENT ASLEEP AS IT WAS NIGHT TIME.WHEN I GOT UP I SAW A MASSAGE THAT THE DISC HAS FAILED ON 82%.IT WAS 34% ON FIRST OCCATION.I CANT REALLY REMEMBER THE EXACT MASSAGE.MY FRIENDS TELL ME THAT THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE LOW RAM BUT I DISSAGREE ON THAT.I THINK IT IS THE SOFTWARE OR THE DISC ITSELF. IS THERE A BETTER MORE RELIABLE SOFT FOR THIS JOB.O... I USE SONY DVD WRITER SO THERE NO QUESTION OF COMPATIBILITY.
 
WhY are u using Nero REcode????

If u have all the dvd files just use normal nero express to burn the files.....What u can do further is using nero express u can make an image of the dvd you are going to create9 by using image recorder in the list of writes in the end) and then burn the image...
 
@hector, stop typing in caps - its irritating and difficult to read!

use imgburn - make an image file of the 8.5gb movie using this software.

then burn that image to a dl dvd.

it has options for burning to dl discs and is quite good.

it is double work but it cant be helped.
 
hey, sorry for that.img burn ha.well i will check it out.is it really reliable as everytime Rs:140-150 of my small wallet is at stake!!! at the moment mitsubishi is the only brand other than reno that is available in my town.are u sure i can trust it with my hard earned money? o one more thing,can it be possible to edit the menu of the dvd by any software.i generally copy the whole VIDEO_TS folder on my hdd.also it should be able to build menus of dvd jobs maid by compiling different dvd files with different custom swithes(the one in nero is not good enough).
 
First off all, is it a proper DVD (containing VIDEO_TS folder) that you are trying to copy or a single file of around 8 GB?

If it is a proper DVD_Video movie, never copy the VIDEO_TS folder directly from disc to HDD, because it is encrypted and might not work properly when copied to disc.

Use DVDFab HD Decrypter (freeware) to rip the dvd to the HDD. Then use Nero Burning ROM or Express (not Recode) and select the DVD-Video mode. There will already be a VIDEO_TS folder automatically created by nero, simple drag the files from the VIDEO_TS folder from the hard disk to the nero folder and burn.

And editing DVD menu is very complex, for that you'll have to research on the net.

img burn is freeware dude! no need to pay money!

so u want to create custom dvd's? then u'll have to use a good dvd creating software like adobe premiere or something like that! u'll be able to create ur own dvd menus and also build a dual layer dvd from the software.

there are free alternatives (forgot the names - hunt them at club.cdfreaks.com or doom9's forums) u'll get those plus lots of tips and guides there for these things!
 
Hi hector,

1. Please check whether you have double layer DVD-RW,
2. Keep writing speed 4X
3. Which version Nero U r using? If it is supplied with dvd its not full version. :cool2:
4. Try Alcohol 120%.

I think problem will resolved. :)
