Dear all,

There is a requirement of Web Designer (company/freelance/anyone) to design a website.. Major use of the website will be a BLOG. Main page redirecting to blog would be fine.

Few of the requirements are below:

Will it be possible to use hosting of blogger.com (its from Google & hardly has any downtime) & have URL like below example. If we take hosting from some site & host blogs like word press then there is one more headache of securing the site from getting hacked. (Have seen lots of word press blogs hacked)

Original URL Given by Post - http://xyz.blogspot.com/2010/06/save-to-gmail-account.html
URL I need is - http://mysite.com/2010/06/save-to-gmail-account.html

Whole Idea is to use hosting of blogspot but have own site URL. Can you as a Web Designer do that ?

Register a domain with best deal & for long term (Hide registration details) - Suggest domain names too..
Design new blog template (Not using default blogger template)
Future support & improvement. (If possible provide new template & features in future)
Integrate Ad sense & Have knowledge of SEO
Preference will be given to someone who has good knowledge on securing the site. (Not much required if hosted on blogspot)

Most works above sounds non high tech, but don't have much of time to do. Share URL of sites which you developed.
PM me your offers of money charged, work you can do from above requirement, your contact details & location.

Its been long time I am member of this forum so I would like to give opportunity to my forum friends first, if not will post to sites like DP/other freelancing site.

Thanks Dhruv.. PM replied.

Just a general question to all, Is there any risk in hosting site on blogspot.com (blogger) if it has higher amount of traffic using full domain name ?

Like xyz.com rather then their default site xyz.blogspot DOT com

I had my blog on Blogger before. I can confirm you will not get any due issues to amount of traffic. Google will handle all the traffic that you manage to send to your blog. But the blogspot platform is NOT flexible at all. this is the reason, I suggest everyone to use Self-Hosted WordPress platform.

@Gaurish: Even I was considering moving to a self hosted WPress. Can you summarize your current experience with your hosting provider, pain points costs, management features etc?

Hi,

My hosting costs are amount 2k/year which are subsided by Adsense. for management most hosting providers have Cpanel which web based control panel and its real easy to manage all aspects of your server. Further, there is one-click install option available using which you can install wordpress with just once click.

Also, Its possible to migrate all your existing posts, comments, categories etc from blogger into Wordpress. the real power of wordpress is freely available themes and plugins.

For starters, people can use the option of free host at byethost.com, I have used it and its pretty reliable. Depending on traffic and interest, people can move to paid host.

Thank you Gaurish, I was more interested in the specific provider that you use. I am on Subtext hosted at GeeksWithBlogs right now. The customizations that GWB provide are way subpar hence thinking of moving.

@Praks: Do seriously consider the self host option. It'll save you hasles in the longer run!

Thank you for suggesting self host option..

Two of my friends were using it & had wordpress on it. Both of those wordpress blogs were hacked & their reputation was damaged badly..

Main problem being service provider being in US, lack of communication & support. Finally they moved to blogger.

I second this. Bandwidth and free space is a lot. The only problem is 50mb SQL space. But that's enough for a blog, I think.

Thank you everyone for inputs..

So hosting on wordpress with own space is best option then blogspot.

Any help on registering a domain & getting a good host at reliable price ?

Thanks..

Many people suggested hostgator & bluehost.. how are they ?

Most Indian webhosts are reseller from big US hosts.. right..

I am maintaining a joomla based site integrated with phpbb3 forum. I recently moved to a new shared host hostdime.in since they have their own datacenters and they have a datacenter in India, and my primary audience is from India. I have noticed considerable difference in speed and website performance. Though hosting plans based on India servers are slightly more expensive.

That's true because bandwidth in India is exorbitantly priced.you have to pay a lot and get lot less. so if you running a small site with less traffic, its possible to host in India by paying a bit more.

But for Big sites like TE, US is a much cheaper option. as a matter of fact, world 90% sites are hosted on US soil.

I really wish our Govt Steps in and does something about bandwidth situation. I would love to do hosting in own country, instead of US. it just makes sense

Hostgator is more or less the best in the business, although their pricing on the higher side, but their customer service rocks
