Guide
Guys I just had talk to a friend of mine from one of the biggest supplier of the XFX(you know which ;) ) after my friend's 6600GT died again. Thats 3 dead cards all died within a week or DOA.
It seems that new lot thats available in India is one of the batch which had over 50% of the faulty cards. There was quiet a shockwave and outrage at XFX due to this in USA few weeks ago. And looks like cards from same batch has made their way in here.
The guy told that more than 50% of the customers of AGP flavour of the 6600GT have same kind of problem. Wither card is DOA or it sharts showing garbage characters within first couple of days.

ou are adviced not to go in for XFX 6600GT AGP atleast for now. its taking forever to get the cards replaced and the problem with replacement is same. the replaced cards are not actiually new. All 3 replacements that my friend got were 100% previously used or faulty repaired cards. And all 3 went bad.
Yes they are replacing the cards but its going bad again in a day. One of the replacement was again DOA and there was date on the card stating 14/1/2005 and my friend bought his new card in march stating that they are not giving new cards as replacement. The card he received had numorous scratched on the heatsink and AGP connector.

Its been a big headache for the customers as well as distributors.

So if possible stay away from XFX 6600GT.

Dont know much bout this but 2 frnd's just got PCI-E versions nd r currenty fragging happy

Its AGP related problem only. And no its not rumour.
Just have a look at nzone forums. I looked there bcoz my friend told me to and people are screaming about XFX AGP 6600GTs.
Same happened over at XFX uk forums but it seems mods deleted that thread as i cant find it.

@undertaker: All the BIG disties r good man. i.e till the point they sell u their stuff. Its only when u have some problem with the part that they show their true colors. All one can do when buying products in India is: 1) Buy a "good" brand in d 1st place. & 2) Hope, nay pray; that it never develops a fault...

I say again put in 1k more and get the Gigabyte model, 100 times better quality products used. Pine was pathetic when I last bought a gf2/4 mx. Infact looking at the local support I think its yet safer to order a card from the US.
Whats up with MSI gfx cards, all of them carry a 3 yr warranty arent they available in India ?

And Funky thanx for the warning, BTW nice review of the game Flatout @ Guru3d.

Naa.. Rashi is a not a good disty.Even their prices were much higher till BBC came and spoilt the party. And their service is bad.

Timely information!
One of my friends was about to go in for an XFX soon! Hopefully, after reading this, He may finally decide to go for Leadtek!

Why not Gigabyte it has a better product = 3yrs Warranty...

You crazy???? Leadtek rules. After Gainwad, Leadtek is the best. Gigabyte, Asus, etc... all come behind.

And Leadtek is available in India. The 6600GT card of LEadtek are cheaper thyan XFX. And I do not need to mention anything abt the performance and quality. Want proof???

GO Read this at Techtree

My XFX 6600gt AGP had also died, within 2 months of purchase, but the fault here was kinda mine, 'cause the power cable of the card had loosened during one the RAM replacement. As i ran my card on loose power cable, there were symptoms like the system crashing after 4-5 mins. whenever i played games.Initially i thought it was some driver errors, so i reinstalled drivers, and other software(even windows) but that didn't help, then as i opened my system, i realised that power cord had become loose. After i tightened the power cord, the system stopped crashing, and i thought the problems is fixed. But the next day, the card died.Luckily, i didn't face any problems in replacement, since my dad knows the dealer in Delhi well, it was replaced within 2 hours.

The moral here, if your card is not getting its power requirements met, it dies without giving any warnings, so i think PSU with low output or loose power cable may be reason, your cards are dying frequently.

well it had to be. Leadtek is one of the cheapest cards even in US.
To be honest the thing i dont like about the Leadtek is its GPU fan its not that great but it dosent matter that much with 6600GT.

The thing that seperates the Gigabyte from others is use of components. Its the only brand to use low ripple ELKA capacitors, made in Japan. All others use standard capacitors. The quality standard at Gigabyte is very high. You wont see too many gigabyte users complaing about faulty products or cards dying on them. Its rarity at gigabyte.
Personally its worth extra 1K if you ask me.

^^ Spot on, same thing as was saying earlier Gigabyte's quality is right up there with Asus. Leadtek is a good brand but Gigabyte has an edge Plus they have 3 years warranty which Leadtek doesnt so as of now I would rate them as follows:
1. Gigabyte
2. XFX
3. Leadtek

I won't rate Gigabyte highly. My gigabyte KM266 mobo died within 3 months of purchase.
ASUS is the best, only thing is that it commands a very high premium here.So many users had their Club3D Radeon 9800s going up over here, just look at the massive cooler on the same ASUS model. ;)

Hmm... So, I'll persuade my friend to buy the Gigabyte one! ;) :P

P.S.: Not any more changes, else he'll grab my neck!

Heh thats sooo old model, and that too value mobo.
Time has changed, DFi has gone from ok ok brand to market leader in performance. ASUS has gone from highest performer to highest costing mobo and Gigabyte has gone from good to better ;)

Nah seriously ever sice the titan series their mobos are exceptionaly good and so are their cards. but they do come at price.
