Hi,

Can anyone here in this forum help me regarding the queries in ERP ??

ERP is Enterprise Resource Planning... Wat is the scope of this field and how and where should i start ??

Well presently ERP is has a good market and offers a good career path....

I have been working in SAP for 1.7 years now as a techincal consultant....

To begin with ERP you should first consider which domain you would like to enter i.e. Functional or technical....

Talking in terms of SAP
Functional later splits to further specialisations and modules and trust me you can master only one domain after working some years on it.... so choice of module would be your second consideration after you decide to become a functional consulatant...

Examples : MM - Material Management, SD - Sales and Distribution , FICO - Finance , PS - Project Systems, HR

Technical - Talking in terms of SAP
You have ABAP consultants , BW (data warehousing) , XI , HR ABAP, Workflow consultants

To begin with a ERP you could try to join a company offering ERP solutions and gain experience but problem is that they mostly look to experienced professionals so getting in as a fresher is tricky... Certifications can be done but are quite expensive and done only if you are sure of ERP as a career....

For functional some people join as MBA grads and gradually develop from there.... Or you could get actual industry (core) experience in say material management , warehouse , sales and gradually shift to SAP....

Am actually working in as a software engineer and experienced for 1 year...
Am in mainframes now....

I am actually having idea abt ERP as my career but dunno as to where to start with...

From this point , wat shud i do so that i move from technical in which am rite now to consultant..... ERP .....

Well for that I would suggest a course SAP course and certification with SAP India conducted by Siemens....

Or a MBA degree then functional

Or if your company has SAP division try to convince someone to take you in....

Ronnie summarized it well :)

You cant get into Functional easily..it needs good domain experience..ie working in that industry

Most functional guys would have worked in that Non-IT domain and then moved into SAP

Its difficult for you to switch over considering companies dont generally hire non-experienced people (except freshers)

Your only option is SAP certification, only seimens provides that...its a 1 month course with exam and it costs 2L :no:

so, plan it well before stepping into it

If you are good in programming, get into ABAP

if u are good in admin - then Basis

How can this be done ?
Is it that only with certification we can move into SAP or something else can be done???

Say i work for 4 yrs in IT and then can i move into ERP related stuff or something non-technical ..???

if u have good contacts in your company or know from SAP projects teamleads/managers, you can

certification is the only straightforward option
your 4years in IT doesnt matter as ERP is a different ball game, you will still come in as a SAP fresher if u get into this stream
 
lets keep ERP aside for now.....

Wat r the possible options to switch over from IT with say 2 to 4 yrs experience ?
Into a non techinal stream, may be something related to management.......

Any suggestions ?
