Guys i would like to know it is worth to buy the WD 1TB My Book Home Edition at 6650Rs compared to WD 1TB My Book Essential at 5575Rs?

Pls feel free to comment.:)

For 1 TB go for esata plus usb any day. It's no fun transferring hundred's of gb's via USB at max 30 MB/s :(

not to hijack this thread but shud i partition my 1TB into multiple smaller partitions or keep it as a single 9xxGB partition? which is better?

Why the huge price difference? If the only additional option is eSata. Does it cost that much more to implement?

Hi,
Well, E-sata interface is worth the extra cost (provided ur MB and case have an e-sata interface and you have an e-sata cable..this is not shipped with the hdd)..
BTW which area you from? have you purchased the hdd?
I'm planing to get one in this week :)

I got a 1TB home edition for 6K shipped from Amarbir.I have essential edition also.eSATA does make a lot of difference while copying HD movies thru USB its freakin slow.Get the Home edition

Stick to the Essential edition if you dont have an eSata port or are not planning to get a system which has one in the near future.

The Home edition drive will give you a physical power button, eSata, and Firewire which are not available on the Essential edition.

Sorry for bumping this old thread. But I want to know whether these WD My book [Essential & Home] editions are compatible with the WD HD Media Player?

The WD player has USB input right? Should be compatible

I'm pretty sure that external drives with USB without power adaptor will work. But the ones with power adaptor, will they work? I once tried my Seagate 500GB external hard drive with Xbox 360, it didn't even read. But all the thumb drives do work with it including the 2.5 external HDD's.

Since I have sold off my Xbox360, planning to pick up this WD HD Media Player. I have recently bought a 1TB My Book essential edition and also have this old 500GB Seagate external HDD. So unless this WD Player works with these two, there is no use in me buying this.

So can you please confirm that WD 1TB Mybooks will work this player?

^^Well if the ones without power adapter worked i see no reason that the one with the power adapter shouldnt work. Im assuming youu meant that you tried the Seagate 500GB WITH the power adapter right? :P

I dont own it myself so no way of confirming. But afaik it should work. Wait for some other members and people who own it to reply and they'll be able to confirm for sure :)

One of my friends is using a 3.5 inches external Seagate 1.5 TB drive with the WD player, without any issues...
