Two months ago i bought 3 WD 500Gb blue(AAKS) HDD.One of them was running xp--- all was well till yesterday---Suddenly the HDD disappeared on booting (The bios hang's at DEL or TAB window---after a few seconds it says disk boot failure or something)

I replaced the cables still no go--the other WD drives boot just fine :(.Its not detected in bios as well
I have like 300Gb of documentaries ,movies and stuff i dont want others to see:P

Is RMA the only option ? if so how can i erase the drive clean before giving it to RMA

Bump

Guys pls reply is it safe to send the HDD for RMA ?? will they look into my files ???

Is there any way i can erase the HDD ? tried diff. sata cable still not detecting in bios any advice??

Your drive is dead. Period. Stop being paranoid and RMA it. No one cares about the data on it (though its probably unreadable anyway). This is probably snake oil but you can try holding a strong magnet on the drive, this should (in theory) completely scramble its contents.

LOL couldn't put it across in a better sense. :P

Unless you give your hdd to the data recovery people no one would be bothered to recover/go through the data in your hdd. So dont panic... They have other business :)

i like it :P
I will definitely try this if i happen to face the same situation :P

Its just movies(Copyright *cough*) and stuff---All the "sensitive" data(most of it) i had was stored in a trucrypt container---Even if someone looks into the drive can they break into the truecrpyt to see whats inside??is trucrpt secure enough?? google says its unbreakable.

What if i cover the dead drive in thick bubble wrap and smash it to the floor without leaving any physical damage can i do that???

The thing is the drive is not even 30 days old ---I bought this after my Seagate 500Gb developed bad sector but was able to recover all the data--Never thought a WD blue would "vanish" within a few weeks everyone here said WD blue had no problems thats why i bought 3 of them :(

Dude seriously no one cares for wats the content on the failed drive just Give it to RMA

You remind me of [me the years back] Me too used to think same your way.

Every thing will be Fine just give it for RMA and Plz don't try that Bubble wrap drop of HDD

Western digital drives are failing too often and me reading a lot bad review also RMa takes 15 to 29 days

moral Mera Seagate Mahan :xD
