Storage Solutions WD Mybook World Edition

I am planning to buy a WD Mybook world edition to serve as a backup and cheap network storage/media server. However, I recall reading that the drive had a limitation on the types of files that could be shared, media files were explicitly disallowed. Has this limitation been removed from the latest version?

What are the street prices on the 500, 750 and ITB models?
 
WD MyBook WE (blue rings version) 1TB = 10,990/- @ Bangalore

There is no restriction or anything like that, that I am aware of. You can hack it and customize a lot. Only thing is that it runs a lil' hot.
 
10.5k at Delta, Chennai for the 1tb edition.

the lower than 1tb versions ahve been phased out. you will have to be VERY lucky to find some old stock somewhere. I wasnt :|
 
I m planning to get the 500giga one....prime site price is quoting as 6.5k....anychances of it being available cheaper anywhere....so that i can force them to lower price???
 
I got quoted 12000 + tax for the 1TB version at SP Road today. Unfortunately, I went too early and couldn't really ask around as most of the shops were yet to open. I'll probably try one of the online sites.

It is NOT in stock with Prime.. Or with ANYBODY else in this whole country for that matter.

Stalker any idea about dealextreme nas stuff...which can b used via portable hdd...availability here????

I dont know how to get the product here as neither have credit card nor paypal..plus how to convert dollar to rupee for paying stuff....

Which shop?

Goto Golcha, its 10.5K + tax = 10,990rs.

I tried Ankit, but, some "Dinesh" guy there started giving me gyaan about HDDs... poor guy :rofl:
