*Note:
- MPEG2/4, H.264, and WMV9 supports up to 1920x1080p 24fps, 1920x1080i 30fps, 1280x720p 60fps resolution
- An audio receiver is required for surround sound output. AAC/Dolby Digital decodes in 2 channel output only
- JPEG does not support CMYK or loss less.
- BMP supports uncompressed format only.
- TIF/TIFF supports single layer only.
Why not a HTPC straight away? You dont loose any of the format?

this player is basically for people interested in playing their mkvs and blueray data on a tv. i mean, that is the advantage this has over current divx certified dvd players. now, most such players generally dont support ntfs file system. if that is the case with this system, then we wont be able to copy files larger than 4gb. how many of us have hd movies under 4gb?

answer to my above post:

External Drive Formats Supported
FAT32, NTFS, HFS+ (no journaling)

i think there is a IC already on were i have posted in. can ask only after a few days all mentioned in there.

any limit on the no. of files? some players like the philips dvd player limit the no. of files on the hdd to 650 odd. more than that and the hdd isnt recognised.

@vb86: Ain't that bit of a TinFoilHatting?

This thing is supposed to be used for HD in which case each 720p movie packed to its skimpiest bit will cost you a 4.37 gig at a minimum.

double it for a 1080p.

a simple math of 600 x 4.37 = 2622 Gigs.

All the best for putting up a single hdd like that.

I did not mention FLAC/DTS tracks here which will run around 400MBs per album and still wont prolly run into 650+ albums on a single disk.

And with NTFS supprted i dont see any limitation of this kind on the WD TV HD.

^^ i already did that calculation, however sometimes an external harddisk can contain other data too like backups and photographs. my external hdd for instance has a lot of other data apart from vidoes and music. so if there is a file limit then either i have to move some data or buy a new hdd.

the only reason i asked was because i needed to know whether i could just plug in my current hdd as it is.

^^ As i said earlier, I guess with NTFS support number of files should not be a problem.

I understand your consern and am pursuing this, will update you as soon as i have something concrete.

thanks.. just checked my passport. it has roughly 1100 files whereas it still has around 50gb free..

also, i want to convert it from fat to ntfs. i know how to using the convert.exe option. i dont want to lose the data. ive used around 180gb out of 250gb. is it risky? will there be a performance lag? i dont have any way to take a backup..
