Which is a better one among the above two hdd's when it comes to performance? and i am not getting the wd5000aaks anywhere so should I go for st3500410as which runs at 7200.12, are there any firmware issue's with this drive??

hi...

the ST3500410AS 7200.12 would be faster and little cooler compared to the WD .

While there is no problems with firmware on the 7200.12 series ... try n get the WD Blue 640G as it seems to be more reliable and good value for money also

Btw .. i have 2 WD 640 Blue bought from Lynx in my main system and the 500G in the download rig

Me too planning to get a 500 GB, Seagate ST3500320AS or WD 500 GB ? I've heard Seagates have Firmware problems, but I'm forced to buy one coz my dealer can't get me a WD :(

I'll also get a 500GB or 640GB very soon. I wish to buy Western Digital. But the problem is, for RMA service, can I take the HDD to their service centre ? Because, this rig will be at my native home where no courier service is available except Indian post RMS. And thus, GATI can't come to my home to pick the HDD up.

Indian Postal Service has improved its ways AFAIK, so just go ahead and get a WD. I'm gonna go get a WD 500GB for installing Snow Leopard today :D

I know. But my question is Western Digital send GATI people to pick up HDD for RMA, so how will they arrange a pick up from my home as GATI is not available there ??

Can I just go to their service centre with the HDD?

^Good for you. :)

I am also not unhappy with the performance of some 2-3 yrs old disks. :P

Express proof of your satisfaction by posting some benchies/screenies and let others make you happy/unhappy by posting their reactions. :P

Only the Seagate 7200.11 have known to have persisting problems early in use. Mine died in 20 days.
