I am thinking of buying this. I have 1 question though. It has an HDMI out, have a Philips 5.1 Audio system + a 32" Sony bravia. If i connect the WDTV to the bravia via HDMI, how can i get the audio to play via the 5.1?

Doesnt the player have Optical Out ? Connect that to your Audio System

I have a optical cable which came with the Home theater system i guess. Will have to check,let u know. Will be buying this once i receive my salary for this month :D
One more thing though, as per my understanding, doesn't HDMi carry both audio + video? So cant i directly pass the audio through the TV to my audio system? Is the optical cable for audio necessary?

It Does ,But in This Does it Or It does Not is Not Tested By Me i Have Sold Approx 50 Players Till Now And Never used even one Myself :)

well, the player does not decode dts. if the audio is in dts format, then you need to pass the signal to an amp via an optical cable. if you download a lot of hd content, then many of your mkvs will contain dts audio. you will only be able to hear them via an optical cable. for the rest, the hdmi/composite cable will pass the audio.
