Where is WDTV available in Mumbai? Any dealers on TE selling it. Apparently Lynx does not have it in stock.

What is the cost of the same? How does one avail of warranty for Western Digital products?

Called up a retailer on Lamington road - Giving the same for Rs. 7K with bill & warranty !

In ebay some seller is selling it for 7.5k.

What you can do is, add a 160 gb Portable HDD for around 2.5k and make the total purchase for 10k. During checkout use this offer code Its Raining Free Gifts on eBay - eBay India and get a 160 gb Transcend Portable HDD for free.

Market Price of the WDTV : 7,000/-

2 x 160 gb Portable HDDs : 4,500/-

Total : 11,500/-

Ultimately you gain :P. You might need a Portable HDD to use it with the WDTV.

If you dont want to buy a HDD, you can get a Plantranics Bluetooth earphone + WD TV for 7.5k :D

I'd rather get a 1 TB WD Essentials later at around 6K once the time is right. Better than a 320 Gb for 4.5K.

You are comparing 3.5" HDD price with 2 X 160 gb 2.5" price :ohyeah:

Anyway, Its your call :D

Since the HDD is going to be used with WDTV - mobility is not a requirement. The extra 1 inch will not make any difference (at least in this case ;)) and the powered drives also have better transfer rates (although I've just heard about this any cannot verify it)

powered drives could have given better transfer rates as 3.5 inchers are usually the 7200 rpm drive while 2.5 inches are the 5400 rpm.

but with a usb casing you will get almost the same speed with both.

Got myself a WDTV - Rs. 7000 shipped with bill and warranty from 'Here and Now' at Lamington Road. They are the official shop of Mediaman Distributors.

Honestly, I dont have a choice there - yet.

I'm using the RCA connectors for the same but someday when I upgrade to a HT system, I'd gladly use the optical output for it.

Guys,
Here in Kolkata, WDTV costs 8.5-9k from champion comp.:@
Out of my budget and completely lost my hope.:(

About the optical audio I suggest to buy Ligitech Z5500 digital, if you can afford it;). It costs 16k+tax.

Why dont you contact the official distri of WD in your city. They may charge you a tad less - no middlemen.

Here in Kolkata distributors of WD are,

Jupiter International Ltd.(WD Volume Distributor)

Lalani Infotech Ltd (WD Volume Distributor)

They haven't even heard of the product:S
When I told them to check on the WDC website they told me they only deal with Harddiscs.:@
Only Champion Computer's local branch have stocked the product and gave me such a price.
