yesterday night i started my comp and left my comp idle for around 5mins and when i came back i saw that my display was totaly corrupted it wasnt artifacts only miilions of white and brown horizontal vertical lines. so i quickly restarted my comp and the same thing came after the xp loading screen, and after that i restarted again and then after the xp loading screen the monitor went blank absolutely nothing squat.....
so i left it and started it again today morning and it freaking started wokring again normally? whats the reason for that problem? does it have anything to do with the drivers or the card?
and day before yesterday when i just started my comp after 5mis or so i got a big blue screeen error saying some vga3 thing got screweed up and windows started dumping memory.........im really scared and confused wtf is going on???
i baught the card from our beloved memeber rockymee and he still hasnt replied to my msg :@ :@ so can anyone explain why the hell is this happening?? and how to prevent this...........
my system specs: amd 1700+ 512mb sd ram gigabyte ga72mmh mobo 380waats zebroincs psu.

Remove the drivers, clean the connector to the display, remove the power cord clean it, make sure there's no dust on the fans, or HSF.

After restarting go to safe mode, remove your current drivers, and restart the system, install CAT drivers ONLY. Had a similar issue, the reason could either be related to overheating core, or insufficient power. 9800 pros seems to have a lot of issues.. Make sure there is no dust accumulated, clean every 2-3 days...

out of curiosity what brand card is this ?

could be that you have a card on its last legs. try using atitool and scan for artifacts.. check if the fan is spinning as well and also search for deejays tips on cleaning the card with a cotton piece.

I have an MSI Radeon 9800 pro, I have a 300 watts VIP Power supply, I am thinking its more of a Power supply issue. BTW I recieved that prob around a month back it hasnt re-appeared yet, on a side note have never got artifacts yet...

its the club3d one and its suppose to be 8months old still have like 2yrs warranty left
and the fan seems to be spiining fine will try to get the atitool amm is that wat its called?
and im using omegas 5.2 now ist that the culprit? should i switch to ati 5.4 now?

i would get worried "only' if the problem reoccurrs. it could be one time technical glitch due to unknown and varied reasons.

if this occurs again immediately shut down the system and touch the gpu , memory and the VR's and post ur observations here.

ok guyz ive got the ati tool still downloading catalyst 5.4 80%done wil load it up tonight and u know what yesterday when it happnd i had touched the backside of the card and it was pretty hot :(
@aces dude looking at my system specs dont u think 380watts is more than enough?

Deejay the Radeon 9800 pro easily reaches 80"c roundabout at loads so its gonna be burning hot, wont be of help. But yes if its cool then its time to worry as the Heatsink aint doing.

There aint anything to worry if the card is bought in Mumbai as it should be replaced if its faulty. On the other hand if my gpu conks out maybe without a video card for months ;)

overheating of the gpu is not the only cause of such behavior.
overheating of memory chips as well as overheating of the power supply section on the gfx card (the voltage regulationg switching transistors, VR controller chip) will also crash the card. overheating VR's will reduce their efficiency to supply proper currents to the gpu and the memory.

How do you determine that ? am no electronics engineer...

the voltage fluctuations wont cause the xp to restart. atleast it dint for me when i had a ati 9700pro. i had used with all the crap psu brands, 170w, 230w, 250w & 300w, in the voltage monitor the voltage always fluctuated but it never restarted xp or when i was playing games, but every 2 months the psu would get spoilt. lol.

anyways u can try cleaning your card heatsink. if it had a lot of dirt then that could have been the problem. the 9700pro was supposed to heat more than the 9800pro & was always hot but i had never had such problems, every 3 months or so i used to get display corruptions ingame & the pc used to hang, so all i had to do was clean the card & the hsf & it used to work fine again.

am no engineer , electronics or otherwise.;)
but if the vr's overheat their capacity to switch current to the various devices on the card falls drastically. note i have mentioned current (amps) and not the voltage. the voltages are monitered by the regulator chip on the card and can be corrected on the fly.
@ stormblast,

we are discussing the power supply circuit on the graphic card. not the main psu of the m/c.

AFAIk....i think it cud be dust...or ur PSU.....i have used this card with a 300w nd had given u my specs too....also will try to send u the bill asap....
But checkout ur psu for sure........
didnt hav ny artifacts in a year i used it as i told u.....
nyways
wil get bac to u soon

naah been more than a week i think it was running fine played doom3 medal of honour etc man like i said before looking at my configuration dont u think a 380watts psu is more than enough i mean how much power could a 1700+ 40gb hdd dvd rom cd writer and audigy 1 sound card need? i used to run all that along with the 9600 on a 250watts mercury..
but i think its the dust since when i got the card i forgot to clean the dust that was on the heatsink and fan silly mee :P

I have also have a MSI radeon 9800 pro i am using mercury 250 W power supply which is one of the worse i have not faced a PSU problem so i think there should not be a issue with the ratings of the power supply

please look at this image maximized.
help.
