Whenever i try to change the volume label of any of my hdd's i get this message

i cant chkdsk/scandisk any of the drives too
this has been happening since i added two new 640gb's the other day, there are a total of six hdds installed. i tried googling about this problem but couldnt find any solution. i want to avoid reinstalling windows, KIS is installed with latest updates, dont think its a virus/trojan problem
any help would be appreciated

Try running chkdsk through command line. It will close all open handles and chkdsk will run.

If everything fails then format and reinstall is the only option left.

ok small update, seems its related to drivers, i uninstalled all ide channels, restarted and i could rename the drives, scan them i.e everything was back to normal. but after the drivers reinstalled themselves same problem :S
@octave, xt, tried both your suggestions, no go

are you able to save any data to those hdd's ? .. check the health under disk management and see if you find anything suspicious

naa hdds are absolutely fine, ran several diag. tests. this is a driver issue for sure, just need to figure it out so that i can avoid formattin :P

are the drives of similar make and on the same controller? if so put one of them on a diff controller.
