that router is on the left beside the speaker above the tata sky stb. This is almost near the center of the home and is in a open double height space with all the bedrroms on the left. there is a terrace garden on the left after the bedrooms (two walls) i am getting next to nil signal on this terrace :(

Just for testing purpose, place it some where higher. At least above the speakers. Try that.
Also disable 5ghz and use only 2.4 GHz and run tests and see how things re. You don't require 5 GHz presently. None of our devices use it anyway

@mh09ad5578 is your range issue resolved??
I read on CNET and other reviews also that this router is very average on 2.4Ghz. Can you guys confirm... would like to be sure before buying...
Else would prefer to stay away from this device and purchase switch and router separately.

@onlyravi I hope you know that this price is no longer valid.
The price at staples has again dropped to $79.99. But thats not the sole point. Its useless to buy the router if the 2.4Ghz range is not strong. That is what I am concerned about.

hi Ravi,I am pretty happy with my purchase, no down times ,installation and user interface is great. the router is on from day one 24/7 and no issues regarding the same.I am getting good signal after one wall everywhere, but after two walls the signal is weak/ average and after three walls very sketchy/ or even absent. mine is a 2500 sft home. even though I would loved to have strong signals everywhere, for the feature set its awesome vfm and am pretty happy with the purchase .. guess my expectations from the router were also more I guess. if you get the price right just go ahead and buy it. mine is a duplex home too, just clarifying. regards,

Don't know who told you to buy this , just because something is being discounted one should not buy it.

yeah, i don't know what the excitement is about. Maybe they like the N900 number :D

The 2.4Ghz performance of this router is similar if not worse than the N13 that costs half the price (!)

Here is what the review says

The MyNet N900 is not a bad first router effort from WD, with 20 MB/s + storage filecopy performance, decent feature set including free parental controls/web filtering for up to 15 devices, 700+ Mbps wired routing speeds and Ubicom-based automatic Qos.
Our initial review showed it also has some of the highest throughput I've ever seen from a three-stream "N900" router on its 2.4 GHz side. And with the properly-operating new sample, I can say the same for the 5 GHz side. But those high speeds are only running uplink and only with a very strong signal (same room or maybe next room).
When it comes to downlink performance or as signal levels drop, the MyNet N900 looks less attractive than other choices in top-end "N900" routers.
Unless you got N450 clients to make use of this you will never see these speeds.

20 feet away and your N450 behaves like a N300.
