I had looked into the aspect of Plex on a VPS. The main thing was the CPU horsepower - its limited, hence you may have issues with transcoding.

Rather than this - Would suggest to buy PlexPass for 75 USD lifetime, add a cloud provider and you have a ready to go setup.

Use Samba intead of Plex unless you want a glorified UI.

How is samba related to Media streaming? Isnt it a File and Print server kinda deal?

Well technically yes. Basically it allows you to share the file system over network. But there are apps which play over samba and with my experience I have found samba > plex/xmbc, ymmv.

nPlayer on iOS is one such player.

A good way to give back to the community. Basically Vidala sets you up as a relay for people to surf anon. and keep traffic hidden. And BOINC sets up your system to do high floating point computations used for various scientific fields.

Samba is not going to work properly over the net - at least, not Windows. Plus, its not recommended.
