What are your thoughts about 13" mac vs 15" lenovo?

What are your thoughts about 13" mac vs 15" lenovo? and do include the after sales support and cost.

15" lenovo = 40 k
13" mac = 60k (same specs, with my student discount)

Is a mac worth it?

After sales support is top quality.once you get AppleCare you are set!

The biggest thing about the Mbp is since you are a student it's so easy and 100% reliable.

You could close the lid today and open it a week later from standby and it will still work at the same pace.

First you need to decide what screen size you need for your usage conditions? if you need a 15inch laptop then get a 15incher, dont buy mac just for the cool factor...

Whats the price of apple care?

I called them up... they give 1 year warranty... and 90 days phone support

and if you want you can extend it by another 3 years by paying 15k..

plus, they bundle up some softwares with the mac

And no, I'm not buying the mac for the cool factor. I sometimes do ios dev on my hackintosh and the damn thing doesn't support hardware acceleration!

buy a laptop based on your usage conditions, only you can decide whether you need a 15inch laptop or a 13incher.

Thanks guys... The only thing I'm not sure is the screen size...

Will go to the Apple store tomorrow to check the 13"... 15" mac is wayy outta much budget (50kish)

Screen size is the first thing which you should decide before buying a laptop, not the brand, so dont compromise your comfort, if you feel 15 inch is better for you then buy a 15 inch laptop be it a lenovo 15 incher or Macbook pro 15.

After using my Dell XPS 15 Extensively for the last 6 months in my college, I regret Buying it for one thing: SIZE

Many 15" right now are heavy, look Bulky and Lasts very less(3hrs max for me)..

If you wanna buy a 15" for College, you better check the models that are Slim and Light(Like the XPS 15z)

But for your requirements,I suggest you to go for the MBP 13"

Its the Ultimate 13" laptop, Except for Gaming..

I have just recently dropped the idea of buying a Mac, as the Whole Mac Product Line is about to change by December..

If you can, wait. Else go for the 13" MBP.. Its the best present out there.

Sorry for butting in,but..

1. What sort of changes may be expected in the product lineup - any articles out there ?

2. Any disadvantages of going in for the new Macbook Air ?

3. Would you suggest any upgrades for the current 13" MBP,if available in India ?

Mb air is also good but the build of the MacBook pro is suited for the daily chores of a student.it's very sturdy and a tad bit powerful.

You can extend by 2 years and not 3 years as stated above.. I have bought APP 2 years back for my MBP 15"

1- I really dunno what the changes will be.. Read about it in Engadget just before Steve Jobs Resigned.

2- With MBA you :
cannot Upgrade RAM
has slower processors(Compared to MBP)
Flash Storage capacity cant be extended
Display is bad
Gets Really hot if going for intensive usage
Battery Life is just on Par with MBP(MBP is slightly ahead)
NO DVD Drive

3- If you are Going for the current MBP, i suggest you to use it for a while. If you feel that you need it to be even faster, upgrade RAM to 8GB.
Even then if you feel its slower,(which it never will be), upgrade to an SSD.
BTW, If you wanna play games anytime on MBP, dont ever go for it. It heats up like an Oven and is unbearable at bottom.
If thats the case,I suggest you to wait for the 2012 Q2 Ivy Bridge Update(Yeah. Q2 Is the time when Intel is releasing it. Many MBA,MBP look-alikes are releasing at same time)

I suggest Mac over Windows Anyday after using windows for the past 10-15 years.

I see a Dell in your signature :) ! Did you not do a review too recently ?

Did you get the Dell for the better screen ?

@Shrjun I bought it in Nov 2010 in need of a Perfect Desktop Replacement.

It serves me well in that category But I still feel its a PITA while Travelling

I got Dell because of its A.S.S.

I intend to shift to Mac as soon as Ivy Bridge update comes..
