with rising hdd prices i was wondering what do you guys do with your movie downloads after you'll are done watching it?

music albums etc dont take much space but HD movies do. so after you'll finish watching them do you'll burn them/keep them/delete them and why? i mean i used to burn them before deleting them to make space on my hdd when it started to get full. i used to think that i may want to watch them again and also to build a collection but have never got round to watching them ever so now i'm thinking of saving on that time, effort & money and to just delete them after watching. that way, with ever increasing net speeds if i ever feel like watching them again i could just download it again.

what do you guys do?

I also used to collect but i guess it is just a passing phase. Frankly during my hostel days it was just a thing one could boast about. Now if i feel like watching a movie again i download it again. The only problem withbthis approach is that some not so popular movies become hard to find later.

Store quality content, delete the rest. Some movies and shows you want to watch again and again. Other stuff is mostly my huge Cartoon and Animation collection. The music and pictures collection is minute compared to the rest. Have over 7TB of storage devices. Maybe in the future I'll make a home media server.

I never delete my movies. Have quite a big collection now in digital format. I dont burn it onto DVD's and keep them, instead i have it all on HDDs because I want them on my fingertips and to be played whenever i want to see them. :D

Cant wait to find the DVD and play it (i am too lazy:P). Most probably that's the reason why most people dont see the movie twice.

Little OT : On the other hand if the internet was unlimited or approx than 1TB FUP with min speed of 2mbps for 1000-2000 bugs a month, then i would have thought of deleting movies and see it whenever i want from internet. But still these days one never knows when a rule is passed and most of the content on internet is blocked.

how would you define quality? i mean like how good the movie is or how likely you would watch it again? and 7TB of movies! you have alot of quality stuff :P

I knew it! Our ISPs are entomo-fags. Gotta make this room dirtier and breed some roaches before the offer gets here.

He was talking about his p0rn collection...Didn't you notice the word fingertips

I am actually in the filtering mode... Slowly and Steadily collected approx 5 TB material in form of TV Series, Movies, Docs during my College days. Now deleting movies that I wouldn't want to see or the ones that I have already seen. I think I will end up deleting 1-2 TB easily in few days.

Also don't get time these days with full time Job and now with family responsibilities from next month. ;)

So Only Quality Content in terms of movies / tv series - That I think I'd like to watch in future.

I am a hoarder also. :(

Until as @phoenix said, Internet conditions in India improving. Not deleting stuff. *touchwood*

Well... I used to burn movies in cd's while in college (10 years ago). Then I used to write everything in DVDs.

Around 4 years back; I re-did my collection. Now I have the collection as per below:

1. Around 5000 DVDs (including 500 Dual layers): All details mapped properly in an excel sheet and all dvds numbered and arranged based on type (series, Movies, HD content, Hindi, english). Any dvd/movies I want I can get in a max of 3-5 minutes.
2. have around 20TB of HDD. from the past 2 years have stopped burning dvds. was planning to mirror all my hard drives but due to the increasing prices this has to wait.

To answer ur question: I do not delete HD movies. I delete them if I have multiple copies of the same movie. For Eg: for Batman forever I had a 4,8, 12 and 23GB Rip (decided to keep the 8 and 23GB rips).

Seeding, yes. I usually seed for 2~3 days.

As for the rest, I still have over 1TB of free space. But when that gets over, will need to start deleting OR buy a new HDD. I dont delete any of the stuff usually except 1. Crap and 2. Multiple format files.

frankly speaking , i also used to collect those thinking i will watch it later or give it to someone ....
not a single time i have watched any of them again ....there are many more new things to watch..

now i delete what i have watched ....but only when my miniature 500gb limit is reached ...so its like
my hdd is always having only 10gb space remaining , the more i download i choose and delete the old ..except the quality materials which i have loved a lot (5/5 for me)

I don't generally delete something until I hate it.
Collection is decent enough but due to office the backlog is more than a TB now :(

Slowly converting everything to HD as and when I find it and if the movie/show is worth the space.
Music collection is pretty small, maybe 100-200GB at best.
Overall all these downloads use around 6TB.

I end up storing over 90% of what i download, which is mostly HD content.

The major chunk of my downloads are on DVDs which are properly indexed through CD-Bank cataloger. However, as most others have pointed out, I seldom wish to re-live the archived stuff as there are no dearth of new content. However, a large chunk of my collection includes classics whose availability is rare, and i do cherish the thought of having them at my disposal.

I think internet speeds of ~2 mbps for cheap is still a way distant dream. Even if a 2mbps 1TB FUP plan is made available for 2k INR, would that really be a deterrent for storing data considering that few months back 500 gig drives could be had for less than that?

almost 1.5TB of data to which i have personally remuxed and made dual audio movies of around 100gb+ which are not present on internet

mostly i download hindi dubbed movie small size if no good print is available and then mux them with high quality BR rip ... it takes lot of expertise and time to properly rip , mux ,sync these movies

unfortunately i dont have a internet connection to share those ~4GB dual audio movies [my upload speed is very-very bad ]

I would surely like to know what hindi movies u have muxed with BR rips to make them high quality and which are still not available on the internet

i have muxed english movies not hindi ... Holliwood movies

i will have to search them just to name them black hawk down , the patriot , saving private ryan [its available on net but without proper sync ] , the medialion , who am i etc....

Expertise? lol. All you need is an audio ripper+editor(if not in sync) and the matroska muxer.

I, on the contrary, remove the hindi/etc audio of such rips. I dont need to hear hindi crap dialogues at all. Also, I just remove the identifier tags, etc.

@vercetti

he will not do it for hindi movies but for english ones. An example is the harry potter series. he gets the hd rips, adds the hindi audio from the 700mb ones.

Oh...The way it was written I thought something else:(

so the Hindi Audio is what's unavailable...and not the actual movie. got it.

nice hobby though @kartikoli.
