what do you guys do with your downloads?

The b**chy part is that the technology will keep on evolving. These days we are updating our DVD collection to HD and after a few years we would be doing the same with our HD collections. Its a never ending vicious circle :P

I store the ones that are seriously good and i like to rewatch like Frasier or Sienfeld series. I delete movies usually
Rest i delete.

Well... I used to burn movies in cd's while in college (10 years ago). Then I used to write everything in DVDs.

Around 4 years back; I re-did my collection. Now I have the collection as per below:

1. Around 5000 DVDs (including 500 Dual layers): All details mapped properly in an excel sheet and all dvds numbered and arranged based on type (series, Movies, HD content, Hindi, english). Any dvd/movies I want I can get in a max of 3-5 minutes.
2. have around 20TB of HDD. from the past 2 years have stopped burning dvds. was planning to mirror all my hard drives but due to the increasing prices this has to wait.

To answer ur question: I do not delete HD movies. I delete them if I have multiple copies of the same movie. For Eg: for Batman forever I had a 4,8, 12 and 23GB Rip (decided to keep the 8 and 23GB rips).

sir, i salute you. and also if you have any time to spare and get my very meagre collection organised the same i'll salute you again :P

frankly speaking , i also used to collect those thinking i will watch it later or give it to someone ....
not a single time i have watched any of them again ....there are many more new things to watch..

now i delete what i have watched ....but only when my miniature 500gb limit is reached ...so its like
my hdd is always having only 10gb space remaining , the more i download i choose and delete the old ..except the quality materials which i have loved a lot (5/5 for me)

this is pretty much what happens with me. and why watch same thing again when you can spend that time watching something new (however crap it may turn out to be in the end)

More than the arrangement...its about maintenance.

All my DVD's are individually enclosed in a airtight polythene cover. there is not even a single mark in any of my dvds. If I get even a single hairline scratch I throw the dvd and burn a new one:).The airtight polythene cover is to protect the DVD dye which increases the life of the DVD to infinity ;p.

As a result, even a 4 yr old burnt dvd can be copied to my PC in flat 3-4 minutes. I had some basic rules which I adhered to whcih helped me save my collection:)

I will post a screenshot of my collection (HDD's) soon and how I connect these...which should answer ur questions. Also, I have made the xls in a unique way which helps me organise different types of stuff in a disciplined way:).

PM me ur email and I will send u a sample:)

LOL its not that easy as you said ... it takes time ... all hindi dubed are of 25FPS and original prints are in 23.976 FPS

you have to stretch the audio retaining the quality to match english audio and then if there are some explicit scenes [which are usually deleted in hindi dubbed version] or deleted scenes you have to take exact english part and insert at the correct interval also normalize the english audio to match with hindi audio

could you please do few simple muxing for me i will provide source for both :P

Hmmm, I could give it a try, surely. As for the explict scenes,, we know that. Thats why there is a main need of an editor. But then, surely, if you are going for doing this, you know what a massive headache (thats what I would call it) you are undertaking.

However, IMO, if you are not seeding/torrenting these, most of your work is being wasted.

with rising hdd prices i was wondering what do you guys do with your movie downloads after you'll are done watching it?

music albums etc dont take much space but HD movies do. so after you'll finish watching them do you'll burn them/keep them/delete them and why? i mean i used to burn them before deleting them to make space on my hdd when it started to get full. i used to think that i may want to watch them again and also to build a collection but have never got round to watching them ever so now i'm thinking of saving on that time, effort & money and to just delete them after watching. that way, with ever increasing net speeds if i ever feel like watching them again i could just download it again.

what do you guys do?

exactly my line, beside, once your close friends start loaning those, just forget about making collections, once I had over 150 dvds full of movies and documentaries, and now I barely have 30-35. so now, if it is really good, i save them in my portable else delete it

Just curious but how do you know what movie should you download? Do you blindly download anything that has been set Freelech by the tracker?

Me? I watch movies on my phone, so 400mb mkvs are all that I need :P

I second that...Whatever movie I watched if its above 5 rating in IMDB it would be in my HD collection. If its a BAD movie then i would probably have a 3-5GB print.
for classics I usually have a 20-50GB print per movie:)

I was dedicated once....now no dvds, just store the content in my Hard drives:)
BTW: if u ever need to get those PS3 backups back, u know whom to contact:)

@Gannu...if u check my current Setup then I have a 22" full HD monitor and a 42" HD ready Plasma; so getting a full bluray or a 20+ GB rip is a no brainer for me. Same also goes for the Audio. As a thumb rule; I download the best available so that I don't have to struggle later on when I plan to upgrade.

even i have a HD ready plasma do you feel that much of a difference between a 3-5 gb and 20-50gb movie to justify the extra bandwidth consumed? i usually get those 1.8-3gb BR rips and if i feel that the movie will be good i get a 4.4gb version with dts. diff in quality (depending on the individual quality of the rip ofc) is barely 15-20% (just approximating ofc). do the 20gb versions look that much better? what is your internet speed, btw?

leave it bro that was just a teaser. Its a headache for sure its easy when the movie have no cut scenes and we just have to match FPS

i have left the habbit as i know i cant share my work so no need for working too hard

left few unfinished projects just to name them Big Boss , fist of fury , U 571 ,police story 3 super cop , the accidental spy etc....

i have both source HD video and hindi audio

as for the collection my games ISO's capture a good 500GB space leaving aside games on DVD's

When I watch on my 42" Plasma...I don't feel much difference b/n a 4Gb and a 20Gb print (but I do feel the difference when I compare the prints one after the other). but in my 22" full HD LCD, I can see the difference clearly.

But I would certainly agree that a 25GB print is obviously not 600% better than a 4.2GB print. But remember the 80-20 rule which can also be applied here. for the 20% of the remaining quality u need to waste 80% of ur space:)

For internet connection: u would be surprised to know that I have a 512KBPS connection only. In 2008, I used to pay my Company CCD guy to lend me a unmonitored proxy by which I was able to dowenload 1TB per month from rapidshare. Then I started going to UK, etc where I really downloaded great stuff.

Then came our BSNL 3G.......boy did I exploit that. My sim used to get corrupted every 3 weeks (not sure if this was because of excessive dowbnloads:))
